Seach over . Best recto I’ve found

My conclusion will be hated . But it’s what I think sounds best

First thing I played when I got this:

I freaking love the tone on that tune. Tried to get it with a TS and Big Muff way back, but couldn't get that sludge.
I'll keep this amp just for that sound, although it does so many other great sounds. Absolutely fuggn love it.

Every time I hear shit like this is makes me sad that this was the soundtrack of my youth. It was truly music to kill yourself to.

And I like rectos. A lot. Especially multi-watts. They're like SLOs with much better features but a cheesier power section. But that sounds like crap.
Dude...
Everything you say here is so wrong.
The soundtrack of your youth was one of the finest musical hotbeds after the invention of electric guitar. The 90s were the most exciting, fresh, wild, fun and free times after a decade of Joy Division and Led Zep rehashes, peppered with some awesome new metal stuff, and a resurgence of blues thanks to SRV.

And the SLO is supreme.

Hard disagree.

The entire Down on the Upside album is insane, and artistically, imo, light years ahead of anything STP did after Tiny Music.

The album is way less over produced and rawer than Superunknown. Less gain, less fx, less mud. It's a different sound, but gain level wise it's back around the same range as the guitars on Ultramegaok. The songwriting is amazing, the guitar interplay between Cornell and Thayil is next level.

To me it's a perfect album start to finish. It takes you on a ride, and should be experienced as a total piece of art. Badmoterfinger and Loud Love may have more banger songs, but DotU is one of the best hard rock albums ever imo.
DOTU is a staple. Just one of the best albums the 90s had to offer. While Staley was fading, after Cobain mouthed the muzzle, and the music was getting less raw and more commercial, Soundgarden put out one of the best albums, ever.

methinks the word “best” is very divisive on a gtr forum😁

that being said,
i enjoyed your example due to the way the gtr was articulate and bass stayed in its own lanes allowing for string to string distinction, versus typical gtr white noise and blast beats competing with a person screaming in anguish.
the lyrics and album art weren’t overtly demonic either. yay.

chris cornell was an enjoyably unique voice that stood out from a grungy herd of seattle billygoats.

its great start to finish. crushing tones too.
i saw them live on that tour in detroit in like april 2000. there was like 4 rows of people there, and that was it. i remember one of the nu-metal bands that were local openers even made fun of the crowd with a "mullet" comment.

horrible, horrible time for metal in america, unless you were methed out, braided and pierced, and sang about "jumping the fuck up".
The Mullet Comment, was this in Michigan? The Mullet in Michigan has been popular since 1971 as has the Canadian Tuxedo.

Rectos need a good boost to really shine imo and probably a lot of the bands that used them back in the day did just that.
