By 3d I mean mutliple frequency harmonic response, doesn't sound super processed or flat or thin or one dimensional. Has a sense of space even with a super saturated gain structure. The Herbert and the knucklehead tre seem to me to get at this with the combo of presence control and depth control. Like, you can have a super cutting gain sound and still have serious bass response within it.

What do you play currently?

BTW...my 3D comment wasn't meant to be snide...I just didn't know what that term meant to you (or others)

I'm not even sure what 3d means in relation to an amp, but if I'm trying to imagine it, it definitely doesn't bring to mind Diezels or Engls....

I'm inside Chicago btw. Hello

If you're in Chicago, I highly recommend you come out to the Gear and Beer Fest on June 9th. It's a little ways away, but you'll get to play tons of different amps, guitars, cabs, etc. Plus, if you're into beer, there will be lots of awesome brews floating around.

Here's the thread: http://www.hugeracksinc.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=82223
So where and when is this?

It's definitely going to be June 9th, likely starting early afternoon. Some of the details are still up in the air -- but it will either be at the Music Garage or another facility that's still down town (don't know the name). We're just waiting on Chris (the organizer) to lock in the location now.

It sounds like we're going to have some great attendance this year, just like last year. There are guys flying in from NYC, CT, etc. It's a great time. Plus, we're ending the night with a trip to Kuma's for some epic burgers! :D

Once all the details are finalized, I will start a thread on here to let everyone know what's up.

Cool. Maybe I'll show up with my CCV.

Rhodes Colossus
DAR Forza
If you've got to go budget but like the Herbert try Egnater Armageddon.

Another amp i want to recommend that came to mind when reading your requirements.

Blackstar Series 200.

IDK why everyone seems to be recommending $2000+ amplifiers when you said the herbert was out of reach.

Blackstar can also be within your price range. Tons of features, KT88's stock, will have that dimensional attitude you're looking for without the thin character or cutting attitude problems of other mentioned amplifiers in this thread.

I was wondering that myself. That fortin and DAR look awesome, but similar high zoot to the Diezel. Seems a lot of votes go for save. I guess I was hoping for something in the Mesa dual recto $ range. There is one in town for 2700 used, but with tax it's near 3k. Another in the twin cities for 2600 and the guy says he'll drive it to Milwaukee, but iono about buying a near 3k amp from a random guy on CL. There's a vh4 in Kenosha, but I haven't played a vh4 yet, and dude wants 3350. I have shows coming up and was hoping to pick something up soonish, but maybe save and wait us the best way to go. Surprised no opinions on the Rivera metal shaman + cheaper amp option. thanks for the feedback!

Scott (Digijams) is completely correct... 5150 all day long for that sound on Pagans Mind.
Can get VERY BRUTAL sounding, plus they can get very sweet lead sounds as well as cut thru and dominate a mix like very few amps regardless of price...

Hear is now, listen to us later...lol

Gary

Will def make it out to gear and beer, although I really hope I have something by then.

Didn't take it snide at all. Currently borrowing a Mesa dual from a friend, as I got rid of the orange and, stupidly, my ampeg vt-22 before it.
