Oh I thought you would know what’s inside of them.
Have you compared your Aesahaettr to Dirty Tree? Been years since I want to buy myself a boost l, can’t quite figure what to get still
I've never tried a Dirty Tree, but I have a 33 and a Grind. I've tried a few other boosts. Right now, my favorites are just a standard Maxon OD808 and the Aesahaettr. Other pedals I also like are the Airis Mid Screamer, Grind, and the MXR M77 Custom Badass OD.
The 808 provides a great, all-around, classic boost. Fairly balanced EQ profile and sounds like what you'd think a boost sounds like.
The MXR Custom Badass OD is very similar to the 808, with an additional button to activate a fixed EQ curve and a low-end (100Hz) contour control. But it doesn't sound all that different from the 808 when set to how I think it sounds best. So I stick with the 808.
The Airis Mid Screamer is cool. Very aggressive sound and it has a parametric mid-range EQ control. You can select the specific mid frequency you want and then there's a +/- boost/cut control for that frequency. It's a cool pedal, but I find myself fucking around with it more than playing guitar. Those midrange controls have a lot of power and I never know when enough is enough, so I sit there fucking with the pedal too much. But it does sound great.
The 33 and Grind are very similar. Probably a single resistor or cap value change between the two. I prefer the Grind because it's
slightly less clanky and bright. For me, this boost only works with amps that are dark and round. It pairs perfectly with my KSR Orthos MKII because this amp has a deep, massive low end and a rather "round" attack. So a bright, clanky boost like the Grind or 33 pushes the amp into tighter territory without being overly bright.
The King in Yellow sounds kinda similar to the 808 when talking specifically about just the basic boost functions. But it also has EQ controls that are permanently in the circuit, along with a three-way clipping switch to tailor the character of the distortion (symmetrical, asymmetrical, LED), and a switchable parallel FX loop. The boost controls are what you would expect: gain and level. Set gain to zero and level to taste and it behaves like a typical boost.
The Aesahaetrr is very similar to the King in Yellow, except instead of a switchable loop, the EQ is switchable. So you have separate boost and EQ that you can use together or just one or the other. And the boost itself has a gain control and a cut control, to help shape the low end. I prefer this pedal to the King in Yellow, but this thing has a ton of gain on tap and I have to run the boost at a much lower level than you'd think. It sounds similar to the 808 but it's tighter and more aggressive.
I run the 808 for that classic metalcore sound and the Aesahaetrr for more of a modern djenty kind of thing.
