Talk me into getting a Fryette Power Station

If I need to get another attenuator I would snag one. Maybe I will anyway. Adding a loop to old school amps and have the impedance of your choice from amp to cabinet. Pretty nice indeed.

Just plugged her in for the first time. My thoughts are BUY ONE BUY ONE BUY ONE!!!

Seriously, this is a great device. I plugged my iPad into it and played through my cab with Bias and it was so much fun. It worked amazingly.

I used it as an attenuator tonight and it worked unbelievably. I had to use it at a really, really low volume since it's about midnight here and it was crazy good. I set the controls on "edge" for a high boost, "deep" for the low and I set the presence and depth at about 1o'clock. Even at sub television volumes, it was great. I even set the gain on chann l two on my multi watt Dual Rectifier to the raw mode and got metal tones.

Totally great and worth every single penny. Can't wait to turn it up a little tomorrow!

If Blitzie decides to keep his and you're still looking for a slightly used one I planned on putting mine up in the classifieds anyway. I bought one this spring and it has less than an hour of run time on it. It works perfectly, just excess to my needs and since I'm not using it I'd like to put the money toward a Tele.

is the PS a load box?

I'm reading conflicting info online, I read that a speaker still needs to be connected, but I thought this had a load function?

I used one with my Mark V 25. For me, it was absolutely critical to get the low end that I wanted out of the Mesa. It adds a lot of power amp control that the Mesa lacks. It also adds depth and thump to the low end, and can add some high end presence that is different from what the Mesa was capable of producing on its own. It also worked REALLY well for getting the volume lower than I could get it with just the Mesa on its own. Add to that the fact that you can match any amp ohmage with any cab ohmage through the Power Station, plus its self attenuation capabilities, and the ability to run pedals direct into it, or preamps into, and yeah man. Seriously, one of the best pieces of gear I have owned, and I will buy another one eventually.

Probably gonna throw mine on the bay or here soon as well. Bought it new when they came out. Tried it with my '82 2204 but realized it sounds best using the master volume. Back in the box it went and has taken up space ever since. All my amps are master volume.

Yes, it can be used as a load box and with no power connected and no other speaker load connected. They made a change recently to allow this and said serial numbers beginning with PSG have the change. The prior units can apparently be modded to do this if you contact Fryette for the mod.

As a load, having the switches set to Deep/Edge most closely model a typical cab. If those are set to flat/flat instead then it looks like a purely resistive load. I swept it and compared to my cab's impedance response. Deep/Edge most closely match it.

awesome, thanks! this is in fact a great deal
reactive load, attenuation, power amp all in one

Had the unit for a couple weeks so far. Just got to really try it out and it is an awesome unit in my experience. I am just using it as an attenuator and it is the perfect solution for me. I can't play loud all the time but this unit lets you play quite and sound killer. I just move up closer to my 4X12 and it sounds amazing.

I tried the Two Notes Live and Axe FX thing with monitors and headphones as a solution but I couldn't get the damn things to sound like my tube amps. The power station is the bomb for getting cranked up amp sounds at low enough volumes as to not irritate your family and neighbors.

Just got mine today. Ran the Poundcake and my Egnater TOL thru it to attenuate them. Half master whisper on PS sounded killer!
Tomorrow I'll try the loop and other features.
