If u have 4K buy a Wizard Modern Classic or Friedman BE-100 and call it a day.

If you have 2K buy an old 100 watt Marshall JMP and drop another 1K to Friedman and have KS mods done.

If you have less than 2K buy a used Metro amp and have Friedman mod it.

If you give Scameron ur amp or $$$ you will never see it again.

$ .02

If I ever went friedman... Id probably go all in with the BE100. At least I know the platform amp and the condition of components. Never heard a Wizard in person... pricey so it better be good

I just got my Friedman BE100 yesterday and has ended my search! This is THE amp I've been searching for

Maybe I should get a Kemper bump :scared:

I strictly play live and gig 4x a month so not sure how 'real' and functional that unit is in a live setting. I don't do any recording... at least not now or anytime in the near/distant future.

They're sweet for live use and as real as the audience needs it to be. ;)

2203 and a boost/overdrive?
This..sometimes you just gotta come back from the mods and get back to what started it all..stock 800 and a boost pedal.

^ Yeah, I'm hardly an expert: the only modded Marshall I've played was a KS modded Reinhardt. Nice amp, but with playing it and listening to all the clips like Lugo's shootouts, can't say I've heard anything that would make me move on from a 2204 and either an SD-1 or OD808.

any more?? bump

Anyone else used the Kemper strictly for live gigs?? If so, Opinions??

I use my Kemper live with either a Magnum 44 stomp box or a MosValve 50watt rack mount power amp into a vertical 2x12 cab and it kills. If I have a pa, I can run direct as well. Before I sold my BE, I profiled it and have it on demand! Kemper released their rig manager, now you can organize everything from your pc, you can add user profiles with a mouse click, and protect your rigs in the Kemper by backing them up.

In my opinion Kemper nailed it , if you spend a little time with it, you will like it.

Add Baron Custom Amps to the list. Very reasonably priced amps.

This. The B-series does all the modded marshall tones and then some, he'll put in a switchable clipping circuit too if that's your thing.

Used my Kemper for every live gig since Feb of 2012. Play small to medium bars mostly, did a few outdoors gigs to between a few hundred to a thousand or so people. Currently own a Fortin modded Marshall JVM, Friedman KS Mod '79 Marshall, Bogner 101B, 70 and 72 marshall Super Lead 100s, 74 Super lead 50, 68 Marshall clone, 18 watt Marshall clone. Last real amp I gigged with was the Bogner 101B with matching Bogner Cab and a decently stocked pedalboard for fx (TC, Eventide, fulltone, etc).

Kemper sounds better to FOH, is easier to bring - I gig now with the Kemper, a powered monitor for it and a Ground Control Pro midi board. Oh yeah, two controllers for wah/whammy fx in the kemper and volume in the kemper. My entire rig - 3 guitars, a stand, kemper, monitor, footboard, bag of cables and crap, etc - all fit in the trunk of my Challenger. Everything is backed up to my PC, so if something ever happened to the Kemper - theft/fire/act of god - I could restore my files to a new one in about 10 minutes and be back where I was.

For those who bitch about the cost of the Kemper and associated rig - you're looking at $2k for the Kemper currently, depending on the midi board you use $100-$300, and I use an Alto TS10 monitor - it sounds great. probably not a fantastic PA choice, but for guitar it sounds fine. They are $200ish I believe. Add $150 or so for pedal controllers and midi cables and such, you're looking at $2600ish or so. My Bogner Half stack was $3000 *used* and I had over a grand on my pedalboard. So it made sense in every way for me.

Some guys constantly download new amps on the Kemper from people who share their amp profiles and those who sell them. 99% of the profiles on my Kemper are of my amps. Every night I use my Kemper, I get the tone of my amp - miked up exactly how I like it, with any fx I need. Last gig I played I used the Friedman KS profiles, my old Cameron Jose profiles, and my '72 Marshall for most everything. Cleans were my '70s Fender Twin and 1960 Fender Concert. I even used my Fuchs ODS XLS profiles for a Steely Dan tune. Everything sounded great.

I can understand people not liking the Kemper because it's digital, I really can - some people just don't like technology or prefer old school. I like both. But every guitarist I've had over here (6 so far) that has heard my Kemper and the 'real' amp the profile was made of it - couldn't tell the difference between the two while they were playing. A few guys rolled the volume back on the guitar, changed pickups, etc - still couldn't tell with 100% certainty which was which. 2 of the six bought Kempers afterwards too and in both cases, after a year both are still happy with their purchases.

Just my experience, your mileage may vary. I still have my tube amps, but the Kemper has it's place too.
