Tried all the Overdrive pedals as boosts - back to the old Boss SD-1 - Video

It has a very specific grittiness to the gain that drives me nuts, and its not the pedal's fault, but people always set the tone knob around the "honk" frequency (the tone knob around noon) and that also drives me nuts - it sounds better with the tone knob all the way up (where it is more klon like) OR all the way down (where it is more 808 like) - literally anything but in the middle where people always leave it

That 1k that gets boosted gets completely scooped out of every rhythm tone by every engineer ever anyways, so it just ends up being wasted
Interesting. I tend to to run the tone knob around 3 o’clock on mine.

That frequency is what I like about it. It brings the aggressive pick attack the 808 dont get. The 808 is smoother, but can work with some amps better.
It can definitely be amp/speaker cab dependent for sure.

I tend to like any of the 808 variants into something like a Dual Rec or 6505. But the SD-1 and a 2203 were made for eachother.
