The neck is so obviously and severely twisted there was no point to trying to build it as is. I guess there are some ways of getting the twist out, but most just told me to buy another neck...

$600 with the parts (which are brand new, never used). $400 without the parts. This is a complete gift given what I paid for this stuff.

What is the body wood? Maple top and? Is it heavy or light?
Maple and basswood. I find this to be a killer tone combo. Not a heavy body...

Steve
Let me check my funds and see where I am at with xmas shopping....

That J Custom looks great Steve. I'm in the middle of a 7 string project myself right now. I ordered a mahogany 7620/1527 body which I should have before xmas. I'm using a 1527 neck. Mine is the natural finish mahogany body http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/sevens ... ds-14.html I was getting a vv finish, but I like the look of the wood so much I'm just keeping it natural.

...oh and yes I'm installing locking studs. It may or may not be overkill for mahogany, but I highly recommend it for a basswood body.

Dam Steve, thats a shame, that is one beautiful flame on that body. I love that color you picked out. Sadly enough, you are probably doing the right thing giving up on that neck, I've had 2 Gibsons that I dearly loved that developed a twist in the neck, one was a 1275 dblneck, and a SG custom, I fought hard to save both of them, and was unable to save either of them. The doubleneck was ok for a short time, and then the twist came back after 4 mos. The SG was better, but never spot on. At the end, I had to cut my losses and give up. I LOVED that 1275. I had to let it go for almost nothing     I had it heat-treated 3 times, the SG, 2 times, when they started talking about removing the fretboard and re- planeing the neck, I gave up. They could not promise the results, so I had to stop . I feel your pain - Jim

I'm probably going to go the Carvin route for my 7 string. I get along great with that neck and they usually go pretty cheap on ebay. I'd get a hardtail, though, and drop some different pickups in it.

dam, wish i had the extra scratch for this beauty. I hate the holidays, lol.

I love that combination of tonewood too, that's what I have on my Ibby, and it's a fantastic sounding guitar.

Steve, who else did you go to for the neck? thats a shame because it looks like it would have been sweet but I have to be honest, I love the Jcustom that you just bought, especially the paint... Hell, I might even call dibs on it now if you ever decide to sell it!!!

Hey Kage - I don't want to throw the last guy under the bus because he was courteous and always responded to my emails. I believe he would have eventually delivered, although who really knows when. I want to play a 7 string again and I was just fed up. I really can't blame the last guy, it was Monster Guitar Shop and Chris Woods who really ruined this project for me...

Yeah, the J Custom is gonna be cool!

Somebody is gonna get a BARGAIN on my frustration, especially if they buy the parts. Hell an ibby low pro floyd like the one I have (brand new) alone on eBay is going for $299 or more! I'm sure the body will build into a great sounding guitar with that combination of woods...

Wow that sucks man! However, my neck was warped when the guy sent it to me beyond belief. The thing could NEVER have been built into a guitar, he KNEW it and delivered the thing to me anyway... Horrible builder and dishonest...

Oh, so you ordered one of Adam's bodies? (I didn't track that thread - some mod I am, huh?) I'd like to check that out when you get it, actually - I like the 1527, I just dislike basswood...

...oh and yes I'm installing locking studs. It may or may not be overkill for mahogany, but I highly recommend it for a basswood body.

Wow! That body looks awesome man! Good luck with it and I'll look forward to seeing it when you're done!

I'll definitely look into the locking studs...

Hey Mike, Yea there are a few pics of it in that thread. First with the vv finish (he didn't like the new laquar he was using so he stripped it) and then with just the clear. I think there are some pics of the one he's making for Matt in that thread too. You're welcome to try it out (as well as all my other gear) anytime you want.

Although I haven't seen his work first hand, the guy that's building it (Adam Bath aka Elysian) is highly recommended. He builds Ibz compatable bodies and necks (I think) and ALL his work looks great.

I remember starting a thread a few months ago while I was looking for a builder and you chimed in about your Christopher Woods horror story. Man, I'm glad you've decided to turn the page on that bastard.
