What is the big deal about Suhr guitars?

Tastes aside, bolt-ons, set-necks, and neck throughs each have a distinctive tone, thats for suhr :D

I prefer bolt-ons. The bigger the heel, the better. It's the guitar's way of telling my hand 'Stop here. Solo.' :D

I do not like neck-through, they miss that snap that bolt on guitars have.

Thats like saying set-necks suck if all you've tried is poor examples of Gibsons. My neck-through Rico Jr has no shortage of snap.

Your snap is my lack of :D

Because they're great? I'm not saying they're the only fantastic guitars out there because they're not, but there's a lot of hype about Suhr guitars because they're really great guitars. I couldn't be happier with mine and the one I used to own was equally as great. YMMV as with anything like this.

As for the bolt-on argument, I've never got it. I don't personally like the way neck-thrus sound but I don't think they're inferior for having wings glued on, I just don't like them as much tonally. I do like set-necks but I like bolt-ons best.

It seems Suhr guitars are wildly popular around here and I just can't figure out why. Most all their models are just bolt on necks, geesh...... Ever heard of neck thru?

Don't get me wrong, some of the finishes are definitely top notch, but you'd never get me to pay $3-4K for a bolt on.

Carry on..... :D

You know what my Grand Pappy used to say .... "If it doesn't say SUHR ... it sucks!"

Your Grand Pappy was a wise soul .....

$ for $ --- Suhr makes some of the best fiddles available today

Very interesting read, and I mean that sincerely. No, I haven't had a chance to play a Suhr, and would jump at the chance to play one to see what the hype is about, but.......

I just can't imagine something being smoother and as easy playing as the 90's American Jackson neck thru guitars I have. I've never held any guitar that feels as solid as those Pre-Fender Jacksons.

I never played them, I heard they sound killer, build quality definatelly looks amazing. I just can't stand the headstock on these guitars, it looks really awful!!

Well, in some ways I agree with you because Bolt On is the easiest construction for guitars.

BUT- Suhr Pro Series street price is as low as $1800. or so, and as others have pointed out a great guitar IS a great guitar, tone and playability, resonance , intonation, tuning stability, and some are willing to pay for this.

There are better values , possibly, but Suhrs are top notch and you can feel it and hear it.

I hope they make a Set Neck 25.5" scale as part of the Pro Series- THAT might be a bargain for what it is.

One day, I'll own a Suhr guitar. Probably a modern Carved top with a classic floyd.

Yup, that would be nice....

On the other hand, I'm perfectly happy with my Petrucci.

Whether someone glues some wings on a stick, or bolts a stick to a board, it doesn't much matter to me. :D

If I could swing it, I'd pay 3-4k for a guitar that blew me away, irrespective of construction type.

FWIW, my personal preference has always been bolt on. To me, they have a better feel/response.

Carry on

Has anyone bought or played the overseas Suhr guitars yet? Since the press release I have not heard much else, I thought they were going to be the Charvel killer due to the price being the same but with extra attention.

try different brands to see which feels best. it's hard to make a guess from too many suggestions. what feels good to one person feels horrid to an other.

Smells like a troll post but I'll bite. Your comments above indicate you have no understanding of the correlation between guitar-design and cost. So, it's pointless to carry on the conversation any further.

I like the neck on your Modern but i can see how some think those Modern necks are too small. However, listening to that Cali mod clip you made, your LP Classic destroys your Suhr tonewise. IMHO

My Suhr Pro Series did not stay in tune as much as i would have liked, and as I've said before, it didn't sound all that great. I wouldn't call it a dud or anything but it didn't sound any better than your typical USA strat.

I played the Suhr Rasmus guitars at NAMM. For the same price point, I prefered the Charvel Promods and the Buddy Blaze imports that were right across from the Suhr booth personally...

That said, if I was forced to have only one guitar, it'd be my Suhr Guthrie over anything else I own. It can cover so much territory in a single guitar, I could be happy with just that one... great playing and purdy too... :D

I've played several Suhr's and thought they only sounded so so and I personally don't get the hype around them. I could have been unlucky and just played some that weren't that hot. It happens with all guitar makes so YMMV. I'll say some have some crazy nice tops and they are well built guitars but I preferred, for the price, the Andersons I've played as far as tone goes.
