Talk about a huge difference!! It took away that congestion, cleared it up, tightened it up, and sounds more natural now and more open. It took away some gain from the post '04 gain mod, and now all the gain is usable. I can't believe Bogner doesn't put out the XTC's with this gain mod. It takes away the main thing that people don't like about the XTC (for those who don't like it). They'd sell a hell of a lot more of them if they used that mod instead of the one they're using right now IMO of course.![]()
I was planning on doing this mod soon. You're referring to the one on the bognerampforum site, right? I think the blue channel is perfect, but the red is too compressed/muddy on rhythm work. Do you use the red for rhythm playing a lot more now?

My 2004 Classic came from the factory with the "Cameron" mod on R12. Mark C. was working there at the time and they were probably experimenting a bit.

Out of the ones you listed, I would go with the Elmwood![]()
Hmm...I always thought that KT88's were known for tightness and clarity? Anyway, about the Bogner stuff. I never heard Bogner that I loved until I got my Cameron moded 101B. This it the ultimate 3 channel amp, and has cured my amp GAS for a long time. He opened up the red channel and it is just amazing. It's not compressed or muffeled at all and it just screams for leads. The rhythm tone is very tight as well. It's the most musical high gain channel I've ever heard. I'm a boosting freak...using my SD1 as a clean boost with every amp I've owned in the past (Mesa MK's, Powerball, Blackmore, Splawn QR to name a few) and I can honestly say that I'll never use a boost with the red channel of this amp.
Do you know what Mark did to mod your red channel? I absolutely love my 101b, but the red channel could use some more definition for rhythm playing / be opened up a bit. The blue is just perfect as is, so I imagine he didn't mod that, right?
Solid state rectifier and bold power settings would be pretty tight with a set of #8-#10 rated tubes.se7en":1uvx11bg said:stratotone":1uvx11bg said:Rackmount Dual Rectifier. Listen to King's X Dogman album, imho some really awesome drop tuned guitar tones. Case closed.

Good album...I don't think a Rectifier would work for him though, since he doesn't like a spongy feel.
Boogies don't do it for me at all. I played a ton of Rectos, MKI, Tremoverb and owned a IIC+.....they feel awful to play thru.stratotone":1tffejrc said:Rackmount Dual Rectifier. Listen to King's X Dogman album, imho some really awesome drop tuned guitar tones. Case closed.

Leaning towards the Herbert at the moment. But that could change any minute.Rob Tahan":2z0c2vmd said:Ive played 3 out of 4 of the amps that you listed and i think hands down the best and most versitile in my opinion is the Herbert. What a beast!
Core9":1x7315cd said:The Diezel amps are supposed to be really great. Never played one personally. The only thing negative I ever heard about them is that they can sound somewhat sterile or "hi-fi" for a tube amp. Like I said, "heard", can't say for sure on that though. Others can probably chime in on that. But plenty of headroom should be there.
I wouldn't think of ever touching it! The amp sounds perfect.se7en":2h0fxqoc said:johnnyjellybean":2h0fxqoc said:se7en":2h0fxqoc said:J.B.":2h0fxqoc said:Paige, I took my XTC to my tech buddies house yesterday and tryed a few mods per Mark C. Nice...I take it you like it?
Do you own both or are you judging from internet clips? Just asking......tokyo tapes":284lxkx1 said:I love the SLO. To me it has more punch and is voiced better than the M90. For detuned/ 7-string I'm not so sure.
If you like KT-88's you should definitely check out this bad boy when it gets released:

From what I have heard of the blackstar amps, I have extremely high expectations
The Herbert didn't do it for me so as a fellow Wizard owner, I'll be curious to hear your take on it if you do get it.Greazygeo":36w81w99 said:Leaning towards the Herbert at the moment. and maybe the Suhr OD100 SE+?
i liked all of those you listed on the first try, except the VH4, and now like the VH4 after hearing it with deferent tubes.
guess the Herbert would be my pick from your list. the Herbert probably covers the most bases, good feel, good clean, lots of sounds, etc.?
there's a M90 for $2800 at Hugeracks.

I'd have to hear the SLO with a 7 string. The two Hotrods I played were cool, but we only had reg tuned gtrs.tokyo tapes":2uoc6sed said:I love the SLO. To me it has more punch and is voiced better than the M90. For detuned/ 7-string I'm not so sure.

I guarantee there'll be 3 guys on this forum who will have then been in the same predicament if George goes with that![]()
Yeah I have a Metal which Rick modded for me and a Modern Classic. The Modern is cool, but gets the same tones as my old '69 plexi does. It was great to use with a band since it has a great FX loop. Now that Im just recording it seems redundant to have it.samhill":2uoc6sed said:If you are using Wizards...the OD100se+ sounds nothing like it at all. The OD is more modern.
