Why aren't Orange Amps more popular here????????

Played a Rockerverb 100 and thought it was pretty cool. It has a nice sparkly "zesty" top end that would be killer for live situations but was maybe a little uninspiring for a solo jam session. I also got to plug into a much older model (OR 120 maybe?) and it was an amazing amp! Much better than the Rockerverb.

I had a Rockerverb 50. Cool amp, but it didn't do anything special. A bit mushy too. I can see why stoner-rock bands dig 'em.

Every Orange amp I've played sounded like a crappy amp with a crappy fuzz in front.

Lately, I have been getting bored with the same old amps being talked about, and hearing the same old amps out there. My sound is starting to change alittle bit, and I have really been wanting something with that marshall type grind in the midrange, that just sounds really great live. I had never really given Orange amps a look at for the type of music I play (Death/technical metal etc), but WOW I'm glad I did! Looking at the Rockerverb 100, (especially loaded with KT88s), I think you would be hard pressed to find an amp that sounds meaner than that! Sure, there are amps with more gain, maybe more bottom end etc, but holy shit if that isn't one of the meanest most pissed off sounding amps I've ever heard, and definitely one of the thickest!!! It is incredibly clear sounding too, I'm sure it is an amp that ROCKS live. For heavy riffing, especially on my 7 string, I think I would just LOVE this amp, especially boosted. i heard Ola's clips online of the rockerverb 100, and after hearing those, this is the only amp that has peaked my interest like VHT/Fryette did for me 6 or 7 years ago.

I have literally spent the last few hours just trying to find out everything I can about them, and what Orange would be for me. Sounds like it would be the Rockerverb 100, or the thunderverb possibly. Problem is, can't play both (probably not either of them actually) around here to find out. Also, the cleans are absolutely awesome as well!!! I believe I played a rockerverb 50 or something a year ago, and remember being very impressed, especially since I knew slipknot used them, however I believe it was the original model, not the mk II. I just love amps with really aggressive and pissed off/gnarly sounding midrange (5150, VHT/Fryette is also very unique), which is why I think I fell in love with the sounds I'm hearing from these amps. So again, I ask, why aren't they more popular? Is it because they are ugly!?

My VHT/Fryettes aren't going anywhere I don't think, but man, getting rid of my 5150, and using an Orange to run in stereo with my UL is really starting to cross my mind!!!!
The thunderverb has some cool features like the footswitchable attenuator built in but I believe that the rockerverb is a more versatile and better amp for most around here. The thunderverb lacks a bit in gain and the rockerverb has plenty and the gain knob has a wide range. I have the older 6v6 version and it's a great sounding head. I believe that they don't get as much attention here because there are plenty and they aren't 4500 bucks with a two year wait.

I've played through a few of them. To me, they sound totally generic. They don' sound bad, but absolutely nothing about them gets my attention.

For me, I think it's the same thing with Egnater. At least with the Egnaters I've played, there were some cool features that grabbed my attention. But actually playing them was a similar experience. There's just nothing about the tone that I find more interesting than a thousand other amps on the market.

Perhaps someone could post some links to clips or videos that show why they like Orange amps?

Really? Generic? I couldn't disagree more. In times were everyone is playing an Engl, Diezel, or a 5150 it seems, I think the Orange amps are rather refreshing to me... But that is just my opinion!

Heres my favorite clips I've heard:

I dunno, I just think they are refreshing I guess. the first 3 clips are obviously the heaviest, and I admit, Ola has a way of making all of his amps sound great and like "him" when he records them, but I feel he really captures the extremely aggressive midrange these amps have on the first clip...Especially boosted, that just sounds absolutely INSANE!!

Clearly because they aren't hacked up enough with various mods and certainly never have the JOSE MOD! Why would anyone around here like an amp stock? pleeeeeeease

Pretty much....They're no good for 80's butt rock and they're not a Marshall that's been modded till it sounds like a boogie. ;)

Screw that man, I think this place is FAR from having any TGP vibe... No way. Uh uh. No dice.

I've pondered Orange amps. I don't know, I've only ever tried one and that was a few years back, but it didn't really speak to me. When you say above that everyone's playing Diezels and Engls, I disagree. I'd say Diezel is mentioned a lot here because it's the only place that you can get direct one-on-one with this otherwise small manufacturer of high-end amps. Diezels are pretty high brow man, and one of the most unique sounding amps in the world IMHO. Just sayin'. Engls? I have zero skin in that game...

But Oranges versus Diezels versus whatevers... My [small] experience with Orange led me to think they weren't for me - maybe too generic sounding. I think a few cats here have played in front of a lot of different amps, and generic just doesn't gain traction as much as some of the MODDED circuits and booooteeeek amps. Then again, all it takes is chemistry. Maybe Orange amp owners are so f*ckin' happy playing the snot outta their amps they never spend time on forums - could be fact you know

Wvr.

I think it's the fact that they're nothing special combined with the price tag. I played an orange 1x12 combo (don't remember the model) 6 or 7 years ago at a local music store and I came away very unimpressed. Until that time I had a major boner for Orange amps so that experience left me a little bummed out.

The tag on it? $1100. I'm sure being at a small store there was some markup on it but IMO there are better amps out the for half that price.

FWIW, the worst sounding bass rig I've ever heard (Deftones) was also Orange. Between that and the horrible vocals I was scarred for life

Ola's clips sound nice, but they always do. They also remind me of why I never went for an Orange. To me, they feel stiff with a pretty terrible attack. Yes, it's fixed with the boost, but I hate using boosts. If I was going for that type of sound, I might go for a Framus Cobra.

they make cool amps, i always love how other people sound through them, but can't seem to get into them too much myself, something almost fuzzy about the gain that i'm not too fond about, however i've really enjoyed playing through the OR50 and was quite impressed by the TH30 i played through, albeit at fairly low volumes

their cabs are great too imo

Tiny Terror got me SO excited. Finally got to play one...muddy mess. I respect Orange, just not for me.

They carry them at the GC here in town. Went it to try one, told the sales guy I wanted to check them out. Spent the next 45 minutes waiting for him to figure out how to hook up the Egnater that HE likes...wound up bailing out! Never did get to check it out. :(

I think most of the reasons that orange amps are not more popular here have already been covered.

I have owned the Orange Rockverb 50 mk1. While it had plenty of gain for me, it didn't have the gain on tap of a 5150 or similar amp. I really liked the RV50, the clean was the amps weak point, but the gain channel had a great range of gain, it was amazing how much that gain knob did. I did have a few issues with mine, which kind of turned me south a bit on it. Also I found that for the cleans to be the best, I had to use my CL80 cab, if I wanted to cut through and get the best gain sound, I had to use the V30 cab. I ended up mixing them most of the time, as they were both 112's. When I got my RV50H, I had a few comments in a thread that it would blow away my Marshall Silver Jubilee. While I liked the RV50, I still have the Silver Jubilee. :)

Orange recently announced a NAMM an OR50H and OR15H. I have more interest in the OR15, as I don't have an amp less than 35Watts, but I thought from the clips that the OR50 sounded better. The OR15H is pretty reasonably priced at $750, so its in the running right now.

SOooo, Not much Orange amp love around here. I have a RV100 and I really like the amp, it has a good clean channel, good reverb, and a great gain channel. I really love how versatile the gain channel is, def a major sweep on these, classic to metal is no issue. As Reza stated, keep the volume up and the gain down for best response. Overall a great amp. FWIW, a while back I traded this amp in on a Mesa Royal Atlantic (the answer to all amps) played on it for a week and went back and got my Orange back and its still here.

The newer Oranges that I have heard and played through sounded boxey and strangely unnatural. Those little TT combos sound horrible. Don't care for the TT head.

Seen bands using the big heads. Sounded ok but nothing special.

Just don't really care for them. :dunno:

+1

Basically not my cup of tea. Of the ones i have tried i have not liked them, and they have also been defective...
