Why do people bother posting on Craigslist?

CL still has gear listings? I thought it was strictly for setting up clandestine sexual meetings at rest stops. Boy I've been out of the loop.

Ooohhh. I must be on the wrong forums then. :emofag: :grim:

Now you know. And knowing is half the battle ... or some shit like that =D

I've given up on Craigslist as well. Rarely are there serious buyers, mostly people who fail to read the listing.

Surprisingly, I've had considerably better luck selling gear on CL than here. Wish that weren't the case.

I've recently moved an EBMM BFR JP6, Two Notes Live and CAB, Eleven Rack (still have one for sale), Mesa Widebody 1x12, traded a Line 6 JTV and have a few other things still posted.

I'm leery of any payment that isn't cash when it comes to Craigslist. I've done transactions on here with pay pal, but there is generally a sense that someones done business here before and hasn't f'd anyone over. ... Craigslist doesn't allot that luxury. I get "would you take paypal" fairly often and always respond with a no. People get butt hurt about it, but it is what it is.

Not responding at all is BS though, I hate it even worse when someone posts something and they don't put any contact info on the listing..

The guy I referred to in my previous post finally responded. Where was I? Literally on my way back from GC with another guitar. Kinda pissed because I really wanted the CL guitar. I told the guy if I don't like the one I just picked up, I'll see if he still has it for sale Saturday and return the one I purchased from GC.

But seriously, you see what happens when you respond too late. No sale. Guess it depends on how badly you need the money :dunno:

A recent Craigslist adventure...I sold a SLO earlier this year on Seattle's CL. I provided a few video demos so that we could meet in a public place without him auditioning it. He agrees on the price, the meeting place, and to provide cash in-hand. He shows up 50 minutes late (texting me "traffic updates" during the whole time) and with his mother and girlfriend in tow. Oooookaaaayyyy. Before I even shake his hand and say hello, his mother tries to low-ball me. I ignore her and show him the amp. He's satisfied. Mom starts firing again, and this time trying to point out flaws that didn't exist. I start putting the amp back into my rig and tell her that I have 2 more potential buyers in Seattle and 3 more down in Portland waiting to hear back if it didn't sell, with all of them willing to pay my price. So either take it now or good luck. She shuts up and hands over a pile of $20 bills. After the first count was shy, she hands over a pile of $10's. After the second count was shy, she hands over $5's. The kid e-mails me the next day, apologizing. I told him that if we ever do another 4-figure deal again, he needs leave earlier, bring $100's, and leave mom at home.

Craigslist here is as lame as it gets. Me selling a yard tool, abbreviated version:

Ad: Four foot york rake
Buyer email: I'll take it, on my way!
Buyer here: I thought it was bigger
Me to myself: What part of four foot don't you understand? Get the fuck out of here!

And what I like to do to the head scratcher bottom feeders:
Them: Will you take $100?
Me: Well, you're a little low but for that price I might be willing to part with this...(insert picture found on Google of smashed and destroyed similar item). What time can you be here to do the deal?
Usual response to that: #^%#&*!

It usually takes a while, but I have decent luck on my local craigslist with buying, selling, and trading. Sold my Roadster for only $100 below asking price (ended up being $1100). Lots of people are willing to pay with Chase QuickPay, which is nice for me as I'd rather not be holding cash, and like that the money goes right into my account.

Yes, lowballers are out there, but whatever. They're just seeing if they can find a steal. Just say no or ignore them. Sometimes it's also a case of us thinking our gear is worth more than it actually is.

I'd rather sell on Craigslist/locally and avoid shipping/PayPal than sell through other avenues unless we're talking about pedals. Shipping stuff still just scares me. It's a matter of when, not if, your shipment gets destroyed. I've paid more than $100 to ship stuff from Chicago on several occasions. It's just not worth it for me.

Trying to sell a few things on CL here. I've had two emails asking me if the actual item (for two different items) is still available. I responded with yes since they aren't sold, and have not heard back from either person. Why ask if something is still available, then not respond for several days (and counting) after I told you yes?

I sold my two charvels this year for a good chunk more than I paid for them. But... that was only after a long time and tons of completely aggravating low ballers, morons and offers to trade piles of crap for a US Charvel etc. I think as long as you go into it expecting: 1) this will probably take longer than you think and 2) there will be some aggravation, you can still make out pretty good on CL. As said, at least with cash in hand and selling things as is in person there is no bs with buyer's remorse types trying to screw you over with returns or shipping damage etc. on ebay. Pick your poison I guess. It also goes without saying but in order to deal with the fact that EVERYBODY will low ball you on CL I always ask for more than I really need for an item to counter that, it helps.

I have had good luck with stuff other than gear. I sold a Toyota tailgate today that I posted on Thursday. I got my asking price,no haggling. I sold a lawn mower last month. Transmission in the spring. I'm telling ya it's the spam folder. 2of the 3 replies I got went to spam folder. Gear, I sold my Les Paul after a few months, albeit for quite a bit less than I think it was worth but cash in hand deal instead of Ebay and shipping. You deal with a lot of BS but it's free, so you really cant complain.
