That Four Horseman riff changed history. We never heard music so heavy, we didn't even know how to act. We didn't realize what were hearing at the time. It wasn't even close to any other song on the album at the time, sure the others quickly became what they were to us but were nothing like the Four Horseman.
Yep, I was in high school when I heard that and it was like from another planet.

I actually heard For Whom the Bell Tolls on the radio in 84' and was the first Metallica song I heard. Moved to Germany and heard the Master of Puppets album and changed my life. After that, my buddy and I heard the No Life Till Leather cassette. I'm not sure where my friend got it but I remember hearing Anesthesia Pulling Teeth and Whiplash and being blown away.

As a moronic boomer, I choose "Jump in the Fire". I wish I still had the old fanzine I bought at Tower Records back in '83. They interviewed Dave Mustaine shortly after Metallica gave him the boot and he was complaining that they still had his Marshalls.
The outro solo blew my mind as a kid . The trem pick lick I’m Gm with all four fingers . For 1983 these lead were pretty good

My first experience with Metallica was garage days . At the arcade . I remember the moment . I go what’s that . He said it’s the new album by Metallica the best band on earth . Vividly

I understand that Metallica is huge now and most people know who they are. In high school in 85' and 96' Metallica was only for the guys and a handful of us at that. Metallica was like Slipknot when their first album came out. Only us diehards could handle it. That seems hilarious now because they are so mainstream but they were so heavy to everyone. Most of us liked Cinderella, Crue, Dokken, etc but then the true headbangers out of us also were into Anthrax, Testament, etc. Metallica just didn't sound like anything else. Now we all know that NWOBHM ties but back then, those were unknown bands to a lot of us.
