For example right one could say "what's the big deal it's only 20 watts less than 100 watts."


Well okay who here would say it's smart to use say a 6l6 instead of a el34 when the amp isn't made for it " what's the big deal they both fit."


Or say what about using 12 Volts DC vs 9 volts DC on a pedal made for 9 volts DC. "Whats the big deal it's 3 Volts more."


Again anyone can do do whatever they want and are comfortable with their rig just be aware of the risk.


And yeah when you don't follow basics/fundamentals you statistically and analytically are running a higher risk, probability and likelihood of risking damage to ones gear/rig IME and IMO. Its just best to follow fundamentals/basics and common sense and be safe than sorry IMO/IME

We were just talking about people that repeat old forum nonsense without any actual knowledge about it...EVH did it on purpose because he liked the rating to be close because it sounded better to him. It wont hurt the amp, worst case it blows a speaker, but even a blown speaker has a load, so tranny fine.

It wasnt a mistake and it isnt dangerous. Touching your dick to the tranny is dangerous whether in an amp or on the street. Playing into an evh cab with a similar rating is not going to give you an std

That is all fine and great but as it stands neither an EVH 412 or a 212 can safely run a 100 Watt EVH Head on their own as they simply dont even have the bare minimum necessary power to do so.

Again you can do it just be aware of the risk

Built for the 50 watt heads......


As said not even the previous 212 iterations could safely power a 50 watt head and this is why they move to using 70th Anniversary in the 212 cabs.

The 412s don't have enough power handling to safely run a 100 Watt head..... Again you are free to do so at your own risk. Me I just don't fuck around like that because I don't have 3 thousand dollars to blow but that's me

The EVH 412 cab with the Celestion EVH speaker was designed for the EVH 5150 III 100-watt amplifier. They were released at the same time. A few years before the 50-watt head was release to the market. (2007 for the 100-watt and 2011 for the 50-watt) It was the amp, cab and speaker designed with EVH that he did world tours with. And if you have ever seen his setting, he was brutal with the volume knob. I have owned my EVH 412 for 10 years and ran numerus 100-watt amplifiers through it. Never had an issue with the cab keeping up. If the cab with the stock speakers was an issue, there would have been pitchforks and torches all over the internet about it.

If I was only playing at home, I would feel perfectly comfortable running a marshall major into a single Alnico blue, because the wattage handling means exactly jack shit if you aren't pushing the gear to it's limits.

Evh blew speakers in them sometimes running those settings. But even as loud as I play, there is about as much risk of damaging a speaker as there is stubbing your toe on a cotton ball.

I think 15 ohms but when it comes to that it's within margin relative to a 16 ohm.

Again aside from that when it comes to wattage it's best to use appropriate power handling and not increase risk, likelihood and probability of damaging ones amp and rig because essentially that is what one is doing when they are not using proper power handling cabinets for their amps and this is just basics/fundamentals.


IME and IMO it's just best to be safe than sorry but again everyone and anyone is free to do what they feel comfortable with their rig and as said just simply saying be aware of the risk and be aware of what your using and how its being used appropriately or not.

I'm not an expert at Ohms Law ...... but the Eddie Backs come in around 12 Ohms for a 16 Ohm speaker ..... that might have something to do with there hasn't been anyone complaining about blowing them up ... not sure .... all I know is ... when I looked up the 100 Watt Stealth manual .... it said to pair it with the EVH 4x12 ..... and if a company that big isn't worried about it .... there's a good reason

Hmmm...what you say makes logical sense...but could we consult the Gear Page experts to make sure?
