Cabinet for EVH 5150 III Stealth 100W

Built for the 50 watt heads......

Said said not even the previous 212 iterations could safely power a 50 watt head and this is why they move to using 70th Anniversary in the 212 cabs.

The 412s don't have enough power handling to safely run a 100 Watt head..... Again you are free to do so at your own risk. Me I just don't fuck around like that because I don't have 3 thousand dollars to blow but that's me :dunno:
Ok you're right .... no argument here ...

But I'll keep running my 100 watt heads into mine like I have been for 5 or 6 years now ....
I run the heads loud enough to hit between 80 and 100 decibals in my shop
Not bedroom levels ... I wouldn't call them band levels either though

I have these hi gain heads set about 2 ish on the masters ...
I willingy to bet I'm not even coming close to putting out 50 watts to the cab

Yeah. I have pushed 100 watt amps through them plenty. And I turn the volume up high. No problems. The rating shit is not something I worry about when it is close; only if doubling

I get this but yeah......

I think I brought this up a few years ago on Strat-Talk or TGP and not sure if anyone read it at Fender HQ but within a year they went over from 20 watt EVH Greenbacks to 70th Anniversary 30 watts simply because the 212 wasn't even enough to safely power a 50 EVH watt head. They probably did it for said reasons and possibly legal reasons too......

I know these are things others may not pay attention to or overlook but when it comes to wattage/ohms IMO and IME it's just best to follow recommended and tried and true procedures.

Now Im not saying you're amp will blow up or be damaged or whatever outright but you are technically running the amp and cab not as intended given the ratings and do run a higher risk of damage in general doing it vs not. Its just IME it's best to follow safe and sound recommend procedures.

I rather just be safe than sorry and I respect where you're coming from and really it's up to the player and what they are comfortable with and risk they are comfortable with.

Respect to others on the matter and their decision with their rig but that's me :dunno:

so what cabs do they sell with a 100 watt head ?? different speakers in them ??? not the Eddie backs ?

The EVH 4x12 cab sounds epic. In my quest for a 4x12, I have played a few G12EVH loaded cabs and they are awesome. They are 25 watts a piece as stated by others above, plenty for most

My first amp was the 50 watt evh combo. Came with two of the evh greenbacks. I guess fender didn't know it was dangerous, lmao

well he's got a point .... you want a cab rated for the head .... that's why I'm wondering if they put different speakers in the cabs they match up to the 100watt .... or do they tell you to run two ?? full stack ??

Honestly I don't think they did...... Hence the move to the 70th Anniversary.

Its just small details like that one kind of overlooks and again not saying it will mean outright that ones amp will get fried or blow up..... But all things considered it's just something to be aware of for the player and their rig and that's all Im saying and coming from.

Just be aware, know the possible risk and gauge your comfort with whatever you use in your rig. Just be aware as a player.

I mean yeah not trying to be a Sandy Sally to OP or anyone but yeah it's just one of those small details many take for granted that even Fender overlooked and maybe even Eddie.....

I'm not here to talk shit or smack on EVH or Fender and Im a big fan of the gear and really think Eddie made good things and developed great affordable gear for the average player but yeah..... Just something to consider and to be aware of as a player.

Some of the stuff EVH sells at is kind of at a loss relative to the Fender stuff just so it could be more affordable as Eddie intended and well it's good stuff in general IMO and IME. The quality doesn't suffer and the extra cost doesn't get passed on to the consumer. Look at their Wolfgang cases for example or their Cabs mentioned here, they should probably cost more but they don't.

For example with the Friedman 412 too loaded with V30s and Greenbacks.....

One would think you simply add all the wattage of the speakers to get 170 watts power handling but in fact you have 100 watts since all speakers wattage becomes 25 watts by default.

Its just things to consider, yes it's safe to run in a 100 Watt head but again one has to consider the effect on headroom and in turn tone too :dunno:

As far as I know they use the 20 watt EVH Greenbacks in the 412 cabs and again 80 watts total power handling power and not enough for their own 100 Watt head so you'd have to run two to safely power it but not sure about the taps available for Ohms and Cabs.

You could run 2 212s through it and be find as said if there is the taps for it and ohm options but not sure there tbh :dunno:

then I'd have to go with " don't worry to much about it " if Fender/EVH isn't worried .... I wouldn't be either ...

The EVH Cab is completely fine. as long as the wattage matches the head it should be completely fine unless running the head full blast which in that case it's just dumb. The 1960BHW is 120 watts. both are completely fine to use countless bands have used the EVH Cabs with no problems.
And your right my bad the G12H30 Heritage are 30 watts not 25. I believed they were knocked down 5 watts kike the EVH Greenbacks but they aren't. Good stuff 👍

Mmmmm people make mistakes all the time and well if you don't want to take my word for just ask Fender and why they went from EVH Greenbacks to 70th Anniversary for their 212 cabs for their 50 watt heads.

As said IME and IMO it's just best to use appropriate power handling to avoid the probability and likelihood of something going wrong and not doing so for whatever reason increases that risk, probability and likelihood IME but again that's me.

One can do what they want of course but just be aware of what you are doing and your rig. Again one can do it but IMO it's not recommended and if one does be aware of the risk to mitigate any possible issues.

if they're OK with it ..... so am I
So yup you should be able to run 2 212 or 2 412 to safely power a 100 Watt EVH head.

do you know what the Eddie back 16 Ohm comes in at on a Multimeter ??

I think 15 ohms but when it comes to that it's within margin relative to a 16 ohm.

Again aside from that when it comes to wattage it's best to use appropriate power handling and not increase risk, likelihood and probability of damaging ones amp and rig because essentially that is what one is doing when they are not using proper power handling cabinets for their amps and this is just basics/fundamentals.

IME and IMO it's just best to be safe than sorry but again everyone and anyone is free to do what they feel comfortable with their rig and as said just simply saying be aware of the risk and be aware of what your using and how its being used appropriately or not.
