All Im going to say is in general I don't believe it to be rigged but with things like a WS or ALCS/NLCS..... You know the Commissioner wouldn't mind if it went to a Game 7.... Extra innings why not as well.....HRs....
Most importantly its got to be entertaining, that's the important part. Without that, the sport doesn't really matter or well any sport doesn't matter. People think it's about accomplishments, feats and achievements of teams and players and this does matter but if it's not fun to watch it doesn't matter.... It applies to NFL/NBA and pretty much any sport and maybe that is stating the obvious of course.
I'm pretty sure the Umps/Refs kind of get a hint at what the Commissioner would prefer an outcome to be...... He don't really have to talk to them for them to know.
You also have fuckers gambling, tossing wild pitches, striking out on purpose or tossing the game all together sometimes and with the billions and billions now in gambling across pretty much the whole country. This has been happening probably for longer than many thought but since gambling is legal now and the algos can detect some fishy they are easier to catch and get caught more and more.
So yeah there is going to be corruption on some level but that's probably been around as you said since the beginning of the sport/sports one figers

There is too much money involved for it not to go to extra innings, overtime, or without the need for a rematch on the big money fights. When 30 seconds of ad space goes for millions and millions yeah, that baby is going extra innings.
