Classifieds WAAY overpriced...

Well...it would seem when I sell (read: TRY TO) on this board in the past year or more, things just sit, even after multiple price drops. I can't remember the last time I sold anything here. That said, I won't sell on eBay. I have started selling on Reverb in recent months, and despite the nightmares some have had, I generally sell things pretty quick - on average less than 2 weeks! It's kind of to the point where I don't bother listing things here or TGP anymore. Anyone that had bought from me knows two things: 1)it will be in better condition than I advertise it, and 2)it's usually priced at the LOW END of the price range on similar products.

Selling here seems to be a chore, priced well or not.

Then again, there was my nightmare purchase, which was also well-documented here. It's just tough to want to buy or sell these days. Too many rude people with no "honor" in the classical sense on both sides of the deals. High sellers & lowballing tire-kickers are just the tip of the iceberg...

Don't like the price, move the fuck on with life... Or send an offer for what you think is a reasonable price. The great thing about window shopping is that there are a lot of windows in the world. The only person in the world you can hold accountable for doing things the way you would do them is yourself.

A year ago I bought a DSL 50 at a local shop for $700 out the door. At the time there were none for sale on the usual sites, so I figured that was a fair price. After a few months I decided to sell it, was sure I had overpaid and would never get my money back out of it. I put it on the local CL for $700 and had it sold for full price in three days to a guy who was overjoyed to have it. You just never know.

You should revise the title to "I won't pay those prices but someone else might".

Worth is what anyone would pay. If something sells beyond what *you* value it as, it is not overpriced. There's an ass for every seat. Especially if someone wants something NOW without doing any research - the gotta have it crowd.

If you get right down to it, ALL gear is overpriced. To your point, market forces drive the costs up or down. But emotional economics are what cause money to change hands - or not.

My last 3 amps I purchased from the classifieds here and I got great deals on them.
No complaints here.

Well, I was just pointing to a few things, that I have paid for recently and considerably LESS than what some here are asking. I'm not upset or condescending, just pointing things out a bit. And, I also said in my first post that yes, anyone who wants to sell something can for WHATEVER they want. Just posting this for the hell of it. Something to do on a day off. Lol

Ebay's "completed listings" is a great way to see what stuff is really selling for. I find that's always a good place to start.

Reverb has this on a lot of items too although I think they get a bit to specific. Like you cant look up the selling prices for 1986 PRS custom 24. You see the selling price for 1986 PRS custom 24 in Shell Pink or Vintage Yellow. In any case its a good tool.

Never let Reverb influence your pricing decisions for gear you are selling:

Refinished (multiple times) '81 Charvel - $11,000 (Overpriced by $8000+)
Clean, plain jane '85 Charvel Pointy w/Kahler - $2199 (Overpriced by 600+)
Shitty pictures, '85 Rising Sun Charvel Pointy w/Kahler - $2500 (overpriced by $700+)

These guys are dreaming!

Steve
I've been looking for a nice vintage Charvel or Jackson for a year now..decided on an 88 Jackson strat with mint original seafoam/teal finish, maple HSS for 999 with case. Had a JT6 but I swapped in a Schaller that I had out of a Washburn USA. Killer axe.

Those Charvels have been sitting FOREVER. I guess they are waiting for that one impulsive dumbass buyer lol...
I bought a mint '86 USA Charvel Pointy Rising Sun graphic off eBay last week for $1799. It had a ton of clear pictures and a nicer graphic than the one the guy has for sale for $2500 on Reverb that has such shitty pictures and so few you can't even tell what condition it's in. The only diff is the one on Reverb is 2 hum and the one I got is 3 singles. I put in single coil sized Dimarzio hums in all three positions and you'd never know it wasn't full sized humbuckers...

I offered the Reverb guy $1950 and he rudely turned me down before I found the eBay guy who had priced his right... :D

I don't care what people list their shit for, I just think it's funny and felt like commenting on it like the OP... If people enjoy having ads up forever and not selling anything, more power to 'em. If you want to sell your gear, learn and price at what the market will really bear instead of dreaming...

I think the OP is referring to my '79 JMP ad.
I've not read this thread complete; however, upon seeing the OP thought (for sure) the referenced person was gonna come in guns blazin'. I'm happy to be wrong and commend Rick Lee on his conversational reply. Maybe there is still hope for a good rig talk forum.

There is no ass for the "seats" that I mentioned as evidenced by the fact that the ads are up for a long time and they are not moderately overpriced, they are grossly overpriced. All one has to do is look at the value of these guitars in the The Official Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide.

There's a badass modded JCM800 2203 RI at a local GC for $1599 that comes with a receipt for $1000 worth of VoodooMods. If someone is looking for exactly those mods, that's a great price. Unmodded in perfect shape, those go for $1300-$1500 all the time, and I have been watching them on eBay and Reverb. If what I'm selling were a common thing, I'd have more to go on, but they're not common. Sure, you can buy a clean Ceriatone for less, but you'll spend more if you want a real JMP headshell. I'd say the unmolested Marshall chassis is worth something too. It's not an amp for everyone. But like when I was selling a left-handed 6mm rifle for $600, it was hard to find someone who wanted both a 6mm and left-handed version of it. But when I found that person, he was overjoyed and was the perfect buyer.

So I can see 2 of you clowns getting real butthurt on this thread. Shit, even Rick didn't get bent outta shape on this subject, and he has one of the amps I described for sale!  Seriously get over yourself. What, your Hello Kitty guitar didn't sell for 5K? Waa fuckin waa. Christ, this was only an observation fer fucks sake. I didn't post this in the classifieds, and I did state 'people can sell for whatever they want'. And, we can post on whatever we want..don't like it? Don't read the thread!
