Other than Buddy Holly, Hendrix and one or two other guys I don't see them as being as very prominent until more recent times.

You saying SG is like me saying 335 or V. The LP layout is foundational to all those guitars.

Gilmour, Clapton, Blackmore, SRV, Yngwee, Knopfler, Frusciante, Morello, Corgan off the top of my head are pretty prominent, and if we are talking all time, recent guys like Mayer. Overall impact to music to me is the biggest factor in calling something the greatest, and i think theres arguments for both

The LP really suffers in the upper fret access department.

I don't put a huge amount of stock in tradition or who played what. I care what the guitar actually does and how it is to use. My vote would be the Kelly - it's lighter, fits better standing, more playable, and readily available with a Floyd.

I don't think of Corgan or Morello as having huge impact but I mostly hate grunge music. A lot of the names you and speeddemon mentioned either played LP's before strats or didn't' really become prominent until later.

TBH....the first time I found a Les Paul I liked and plugged it in at home - I immediately realized it had 'that' sound my Strat and especially my Ibanez guitars could not achieve.

The only part I agree with is that Morello and Corgan were not of early prominence and definitely not in the blues department.

But seriously, when did Gallagher, Guy, Cray and Raitt play LP's with prominence? Or Jeff Beck, Knopfler? You wanna go for Clapton on a Les Paul because of his John Mayall stint/Beano? Is that what Clapton's SIGNATURE guitar looks like? Or is it a black Strat?

Look, I can enjoy blues on a LP like I can on a Strat, but to dismiss actual facts (SRV or Hendrix with an LP? ) and digging yourself in with BS arguments..., well... you're starting to sound like a certain pizzaiolo...

I just said the LP is the greatest solid body electric of all time when all factors are considered. If you'd like to demonstrate reasons that it isn't, go for it. You turnt it into some sort of blues thing but I was just talking electric guitar in general. I am not concerned with strat's rise in popularity in more recent decades, cause that is what it is.
