Ted, you'd like the Einstein, VH4, and Hagen more than the Herbert. The Einstein is one of my favorite Diezels, but they're hard to find. The Hagen is supposedly like the VH4 but more upper mids.

I love the herbert, i have the MK1, ive had it for almost 20 yrs and its one of my favorite amps of all time. I spend most of my time on Ch2 with a boost, i also like the clean channel, i played the V2 a few times but ch2 sounded the same to me and i didnt feel the need to upgrade just for the sake of a little more headroom in the cleans.

I would replace a pickup bf an amp, plus I can read between the lines, this is not the amp for me.

I’m pretty intrigued by the atlas. Mark Lewis comes up with some nasty tones. To my knowledge the mark channel is based on a triple recto slaved into a Herbert because he does this quite a bit. The other channel is supposedly the nightmare preamp circuit.

I got a v1 and that's one of my preferred amps. I bet many people having problems cutting live or in a band are using the mid cut in a way that give them no chance in a mix.

If someone wants to be heard in a live mix, typically a mid cut isn't what comes to mind. I'd want a mid boost...

with a lowcut infront of them, i really fallen back in love with them. Still enough lowend, a lot more bite this way, clear lowstrings (not just 30min after a string change only) and I get rid of the fuzzy nature that bugged me regularly.
i'll never will play them straight in again.

the hagens gain structure is quite different from the VH4, not just more upper mids. i would describe it as a lot rougher, but somebody might hears things different.

you'd think so! but some people just dont know!

my self I play with boosting mids like crazy and cutting them slightly at different location(front, pre amp, loop) in the signal path getting some nice different sounds and results. An EQ in the loop is a must and a eq shape tool in front as well. Then you can do everything.
