I got a chance to try the Dunlop at low volume. I really liked it. Just adds a touch of gain and warmth. No brightness or high end at all. I like what it does to my clean sound as well. Cool for a leave it on all the time pedal. I am going to order the Clinch Fx EP as well to try out.

The ClinchFX adds a nice feel as well. The designer told me it makes him a more confident player...I'd agree. A good EP preamp based pedal will add some sparkle to the highs, while filtering the unnecessary highs beyond 15k. It's subtle and if anything doesn't add brightness, just makes the high end more usable if anything. I think there's a phase shift to the lows that keeps everything tight and punchy down there. Everything seems cleaner and it adds a subtle 3D effect.

I use it as an always on pedal and it has a clean boost onboard as well (EP+ Custom). This version is no extra charge. There's also the EP+ which is strictly an on or off/set your gain level version.

^ Thanks for your sharing your take on it. Sounds exactly like what I'm looking for. Just not sure which one though the EP Pre or EP+.

Well, the EP+ has more available gain boost I believe, otherwise if you're just going to set it just above unity gain (the 'always on' level), the EP-Pre would work. The early version had high impedance and the newer version doesn't.

Thanks for the info. I emailed them and after some didcssions I'm going with the EP+ Custom. The EP+ Custom has the EP-PRE always on at very close to unity. The stomp switch brings in the EP+ boost, which is controlled by the volume pot. The Custom does not have bypass at all.

Cool. That's a good choice. Peter @ ClinchFX is a great guy, too. I played out the other night without the pedal and missed it. It's definitely a tone polisher. I thought I posted a reply a few days ago, but it must not have sent from my phone. Let me know how it works out for ya.

If you don't need a switchable version of the ClinchFX EP-Pre, you may be able to get Peter to make you a Pico-Pre. I have one, it's tiny and still contains all the goodness of the bigger version, just without the switch.

Hmmm that sounds interesting. I don't need it to be switchable. I'm going to email Peter about it. Thanks for the info. It still had the adjustable knob for the gain?
