Does a Quickrod not have "Marshally" mids? Why do people refer to them as being "weird"?

Discuss.
Mainly to aggravate Splawn owners... Especially Vrad... also always guaranteed to get Curt's (Chubtones) typing hand going...

Steve

No man, that weird mids comment was real and then the whole east coast started parroting, "weird mids, weird mids, squawk, weird mids, squawk, HOM wants a cracker, squawk!" And then years later people are still wondering after reading this, "do Splawns have weird mids? I wouldn't like an amp with weird mids." Like anyone would? And that has become the Splawn reputation.

And the rest of us are like "weird mids?" What the heck are you talking about? Especially since one thread over from the original weird mids comments they were all enjoying the thread asking how Michael Sweet and Oz Fox make their guitars go Gank-Gank-Gank-Gank when they palm mute the low E string open.

Now in the day, I liked Strypers tone too, but I listen back to it now and it reminds me of one of my other favorite things from the 80's and that some things are just better left to our memories. Like this:

So let's get real if we want to talk about disappointing mids, let's look at Kelly LeBrocks.

Ah Gitfiddler, why'd you delete your first post? I had a good response to it. :)

i had second thoughts. i don't even think her accent, alcohol, and darkness could win me over.

maybe her accent, alcohol, darkness, and the threat of 20 minutes alone with lily tomlin would win me over

I think just he accent would be enough for me. :)

"It's a Purrrssssian missle, Chiiip"

"Chet. The name is Chet. And I didn't think it's a whale's dick, honey"

I owned alot of splawns and played them for years, at home and onstage they always sounded great to me. i never thought they had wierd mids and thought they sounded just fine in a band mix.

Dude, you know I know where the weird mids thing started... The bottom line is that what I said is currently true across the board. Hell, you've written 500 words on the subject in this thread alone! And I know that you personally aren't bothered by it, but other Splawn owners do take offense... ;)

BTW - Splawn's sound KILLER to me in person. Although I did hear a clip once with weird mids...

Oh, THAT IS IT!!!!! Next time I see you, we are going to throw down! I'm gonna bite you in the kneecap! See if you take offense to that!

Oh by the way, your Custom Shop is done. I let Jay play it since he knew you wouldn't let him touch it after you picked it up. It was awesome but he was still mad at the robins egg snub so he smashed it.

Owning both a QR and a Nitro, I know what everyone's talking about, but it's SO hard to describe. When I got my Nitro it sounded great, but like some needed frequency was missing. Changed to KT88's and now it's bliss. The saturation on the Nitro is INSANE! I can keep up with a Mark IV with the gain knob around 9:00. Anything beyond 12:00 on Nitro's gain knob is reserved for conjuring Satan or killing everyone in the first ten rows...

In a band situation, after playing VH4, Herbert, Trilogy, Nitro, QR, and JCA100H the QR with the Splawn 2 x 12 w/Small Blocks is punishing the Mark IV through a 1960BV. I will be ordering another Splawn 2 x 12 in the near future.

Cheers,

There's nothing weird about Splawn mids. It's a 2203 with a raging case of PMS... :D

Oh Steve... How long have you known me? It takes ALOT to aggravate me...

For some reason I find my 2203/2204's mids less fatiguing, maybe it was my particular QR who knows.

I heard the newest ones are more like the old 3 pre's which do sound better to me than the early 4 pre QR's.

Keep in mind I believe the main culprit in the whole Splawn's have weird mids thing is an absolute maniac when it comes to determining how Stryper was able to get their tone and you want to talk about weird mids?

LOL

2006, the year of the Splawns on the gear forums.

If Scott ever figures out a way to get those new fangled 4 button foot controllers to switch from 1st to 3rd gear I might just have to pay the newer QR's a visit again...lol.
