Does a Quickrod not have "Marshally" mids? Why do people refer to them as being "weird"?

Discuss.
Mainly to aggravate Splawn owners... Especially Vrad... also always guaranteed to get Curt's (Chubtones) typing hand going...

Steve

Oh Steve... How long have you known me? It takes ALOT to aggravate me...

in any event, I'm glad you're the poster boy for this shit now...I'm fuckin' retired...lol
I guess I am... LOL :D

four years of abuse made me tired....I now pass the torch to you young grasshopper..lol

Nothing weird about Splawn mids. I prefer Splawn over any Marshall.

You have to remember, there are a many different Marshall-sounds. Some of them have very pushy mids, some not. It all depends on the model.

So by "weird" you mean doesn't get lost in the mix? Seriously, the amp sounds amazing. *Insert "I get tone compliments all the time" quote*. It's fat, articulate, and unforgiving. Oh yea...AND MEAN AS HELL. I stay in Gear 2 all the time, don't even use a clean channel...EVER. It cleans up great.

I'm thinking a 50w Supercomp is going to be my next amp.

How's Splawn's build times?

Also, anybody know the dimensions of the mini headshells?

There's nothing wierd with Splawn mids, but it sounds as if there's an internal mid knob that's stuck on 12 no matter how you adjust the amp. :D

  They look clean in the guts and go for a good price. Curious how they stack up to CAmeron, Suhr, Fortin.

Hey Bud , How ya been ?
I just measured my SC 50 watt mini..Its 10" 1/4 high , 8" 1/2 deep and 20" wide .
Killer amp ..I love it on 25 watts .

I recently acquired a 3-pre QR. I was looking for something that's completely different from my Cornford, and the QR is definitely it. I can't find a poor tone in the QR no matter how I set it. I haven't tried the loop yet, so I can't comment on it. The clean channel is '72 Marshall tone all the way!

Miss my Quickrod, but I will own a ProStock some day. Hopefully, soon!

I think the reason some guys say that Splawns have "weird mids" is because their center tone frequency is a tad higher than a stock Marshall. In my opinion, it is perfect. Scott did a phenomenal job of finding the perfect center frequency IMO. It cuts, but still can be warm. It gets classic tones no problem...

I had no idea these were such great sounding amps. A local player wanted to trade me his QR for my Soldano GTO, and I passed it up!

My old push-mower has weird mids....

I got to plug into used QR and it seemed like the shit!

But then I like leads and 80's -90's crunchy goodness. Back when you let the bass player cover the low end.

I am old, school.. Ha!

I gotta try out one of these 7 stringers all the young pups are raving about..

I have a Universe UV777BK and it sounds awesome the my QR. So it works fine with that as well.

7 strings are weak! To play anything heavy now it must be at least an 8'er...
:hys: :hys: :hys:

I have a Splawn mod Marshall 1987 with KT88's. Its awesome. I always think of it as brite and crunchy. Agressive metal tone I realy dig but I dont bring it out too much b/c I need a clean tone and cant get one on this amp.
