Has anyone ever compared Modded Marshalls side by side:

I have owned a Splawn Modded Marshall, Friedman Modded Marshall, and had friends with a Cameron Jose and Cameron Aldrich. They all sound completely different but each have their strong points. I'll also add that in my opinion the modded Splawn did not sound as good as an actual Splawn amp. Same with my Friedman modded Marshall. Mine did not sound as good as some of the clips I was hearing but I was not using the best Marshall as a baseline.

In my opinion, the Splawn did a great early Van Halen, the Friedman did a great Dokken/80's stuff (among other things), and the Cameron just was a whole different animal. If you want to hear what the best modded Marshall tone is on earth, check out the first DIO DVD with Doug Aldrich (with Jimmy Bain playing bass). His tone and oversaturated gain is why I was ever interested in a Cameron. I heard my friend's Cameron and tried to buy it on the spot.

It all comes down to feel...no way to know which you prefer without trying them...clips won't do it....

Clips can help you get an idea on how the modder voices amps. Anyone that lives somewhere where modded amps are scarce has no other choice. That said, playing/hearing one in person can be dramatically different than the clips. Sometimes you gotta just buy one and try it, now is a great time to buy, used amps are cheap.

about 2 years ago, I played Nicks Cameron Ocean mod and Scotts Fortin Cali mod and both were insanely good, probably the best of either guys mods that Ive played. In the end, Scotts Fortin was the one I preferred but thats only due to my personal tastes and style. That isnt a knock against that Cameron though, that thing smoked....

The Fortin was OUTSTANDING!!!!

yea! actually it was my aldrich mod, that is still the best amp I own and for sure the best sounding of "home boys" mods :D

Yeah your Aldrich is one sick amp, keeper for sure for some men while others will find some reasoning to flip it to try something else.

I've tried them all (except Fortin)...Many side by side:

For me...The Wizard Modern Classic 100 is the winner, followed by the Cameron CCV.

Aren't Soldano's basically a hot-rodded Marshall?
Sort of but as I believe it's origin or fertile ground was s an RCA circuit

...(which for all I know could be the predecessor for the Marshall and Fender).
