Has modern metal come to this?

I am a tune low guy myself. I play in drop B on my low tuned guitars because alot of the bands I was into tuned to that so I wanted to play along with them. Then I started writing in that tuning.

Playing a bunch of 0's on a low E doesnt hit the same as a low G. (thats what they believe anyway). But you gotta come up with something more interesting than a bunch of 0's so I agree with you there.

There's plenty of situations where a low B makes sense

I'm not against low tunings existing, and there's tons of bands that use it correctly and in the right situations - in death metal and other extreme genres it makes tons of sense, and even in jazz or fusion it can make a ton of sense

But it doesn't change the fact that like 85% of people who use low tunings are using it as a hairpiece to cover up the fact that their riffs fucking suck

Well, new-ish haha

Waiting for the day “angelic” clean vocals fall from fashion. They just gotta go 😂

It's so unbelievably annoying

Those vocal styles belong in pop punk and emo, in metal it just sounds contradictory and alien

you can have "clean vocals" but they have to be styled in a way where the aesthetics match so it doesn't make the listener cringe

Those hair and grunge dudes did those clean vocals so much better back in the day.

But in metal-metal they indeed feel so off.

It's down to drop G Octave these days. Often on highly custom made 6 string baritones. I like folks experimenting with new gear and sounds as I did back in the day. Pushing genres into new territory. I'm just not mega into the sound personally.
You mean they drop down 9 semi tones to low G, then add a lower octave via processing to that?

Either that or the top three strings are G1 G2 G3

So the tuning looks like

G1
G2
G3
F
A
D

Which is a tuning i've seen a few times going back decades, as it was popular with funeral doom bands back in the day

I'm no expert but the 4 bands I saw at the weekend all had a different approach. Vjaldaharta used E C F A#D#G# on a 6 string baritone with the E being an octave below E standard.

"Tunings as low as E."
