I am still digging 1977/1978 and 1981 Eagles... '84 with Kahler still sees use. Supremes RULE. Did you ever play my 1981 Orozeta jobbie? I have added, never sold. Makes me Healthy, Wealthy, and WISE.

Don't we all feel like we are stuck and "should" be better once in a while?

As long as you don't feel that way ALL the time...if so, guitar player therapy, lol.

Besides, playing a Suhr through a sweet Bogner...you can't be sounding that bad

welcome to the club. I am seriously considering taking some guitar lessons now that I have some free time to actually play, but I just can't get into them. Maybe I just haven't found the right teach or because I'm too impatient and want instant gratification. Probably why I'm such a better gear whore than a player :)

take a break. especially from the shred

BINGO!

I didn't seriously play through an amp for a few years. I took care of them of course. Tube amps need occasional "exercise".

The dude who started this thread knows what is up... He can fly. He just lacks confidence. We all eventually learn that it is important to create rather than emulate. Speed/Soul/Vibe balance is key. Good players find their strengths and work them to success.

I can play like a Mofo... within my means. I write stuff that satisfies me, and others seem to like it very much. It took decades to figure it all out. I'd wager Mr. Fogerty wanted to play like Jimi... He does well with a small skill set.

"Mankind has got to know... his limitations"

Play on. Be happy.

Ok i feel better now that i got that frustration out
You have phenomenal physical ability. What you need is to to do a lot of jamming to different stuff to get the melodies, timing and nuance into your soloing. Then you would think you were good...

I wish I had your speed and accuracy...

Playing a long time. I should actually be as good as Segovia, but it's not in the cards.
IMO, the best we can hope for is, with all the time we put in, is to have our own individual style.
HA! You are a badass guitar player... Feel, tone, melody...

Lol.

I hear you Carl. But damn i should play cleaner than i do and just plan know more than i do.
You're VERY clean and VERY fast on your practiced licks. It's melody and timing that would make you feel better if you ask me... Plays over tons of changes. Jam over drum tracks where you have to write something. Study the Musicians' Institute Harmony & Theory book - it will open up a whole new world... You already have the chops - speed and accuracy... Many wish they had that - great foundation...

What you have to remember is that many of the players you probably aspire to play full-time. They at least had a period (usually years) in their lives that, literally, all they did was play. It's their career and livelihood. You only get to that top tier level if you sleep, eat and breath playing. Most of us have full time jobs, families, and responsibilities other than playing guitar. From reading many of your posts over the years I believe you fall into this category as well. Playing becomes more enjoyable when you come to terms with this and stop comparing yourself to other players.

There's a player somewhere kicking themselves in the ass because they 'can't play as clean' as your youtube clips.

Well said...

There is also lots of very good professional players who make a living by having to work with music that they don't like at all, or even teaching when they don't really like to do (I know a couple of them). I am happy to be an amateur with not so great skills but really enjoy the music I make.

I love you bro   :D I hear you Steve. Time to forget Lynch and Malmsteen and listen to SRV, Jimi, Timmons etc...

1- You don't suck... not by a long shot
2- I found that recording clips has helped me grow as a guitar player by leaps and bounds.

I meant a clip playing over a backing track... jamming. Not just playing alone.

Steve will correct me if I'm wrong, but that's not what he's saying. What he's saying is play MUSIC. Don't just play guitar as if it's a solo instrument. Play over changes, write, use the guitar in the context of music.

I know this feeling way too well. I can play shit mad crazy at home and then get to the gig and completely forget have a solo even thpugh I have played it flawlessly for a year. Grrrrrrr !!!!!

Whenever I get annoyed at my lack of progress/skill/tone, etc, I toss the pick, and play only with my fingers. Opens up a lot of new sounds and lets you feel more connected to the guitar - IMHO.
