amp1= Axe Fx>VHT 2/90/2
amp2= Splawn Nitro el34's
amp3= Krank Rev1+
amp4= 5150
amp5= Splawn QuickRod
amp6= Marshall JCM800 (friedman)
amp7= Marshall Super Lead (friedman)
amp8= Mesa Dual Rack
amp9= Soldano SLO

If you notice a lot of the marshall based stuff does have a similar quality and same for the Soldano SLO and Rectifier (which was based of the SLO).

whoop just saw that you revealed.

Looks like the Nitro I picked as my favorite. I'm cool with that. I'm surprised by your SLO. Mine doesn't sound anything like that. The crunch around the gained out chords sounds almost too rough.

The splawn sounds just like I remembered mine sounding. Really didn't like the other ones much at all compared to those three.

The krank+ surprised me. The 5150 I had placed last. It sounds real bad.

That's a nice collection of amps though. :D :D :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

I actually had to listen to most of them twice to tell any difference. I voted 2 but for all I know they could all be the same amp with slight changes in miking or post recording eq. I thought they all sounded good but on my crappy computer speakers 2 cut a little better and was more clear.

I agree those do sound great.

I think the difference is that I have a boost in front so that gives a little more saturation. Also in the video the guy is using channel 2. Im using the main heavy channel on the 2 channel rect.

I also don't know what cabs they are using as those can really change the sound.

All in all I do hear the Rectifier sound on my clip and theirs.

Thanks alot too for making me want to check out the new rectos. :doh:

:lol: :LOL:

I know Greg (the second link) used chan 3 with his Recto 4x12 for those comparisons. Maybe he can give more details since he posts here pretty frequently.

Would be cool on some pointers for the Dual Rect.

I have trouble dialing that thing in. Its either to bassy or to fizzy for me.

Weird thing is, I recorded once for a band and it was one of the best tones I have gotten ever. But could never repeat.

I'm still just :jerkit: :inlove: for those two Mak 4 samples...

Damn they're just soooooooo fine!!

Ain't that the name of the game though :D

Once in a while I'll listen back to things I've recorded months/years ago and say DAMMMMMNNNNNNN I wonder if I can get that tone again???

Hey Jake, I see you have a 5150 III ? How is that?? I have a friend raving about it?

Do you also know anything about the FJA modded Mesa Rects?

Haha, I wish. I don't have a III but I've played them a good deal and I really like the lead tone. If you want to hear how they sound on record then the new Gojira album, The Way of all Flesh, is all 5150 III.

I've heard that the FJA mod makes the Recto less fizzy, but there is no need for this with the new 2010 version, the fizz isn't overwhelming like people often complain about with the older and rack versions, just good tone.

Out of curiosity, how come you thought I had a 5150 III?

Wow, I guess I like Splawn. Never played one, I should check them out. :rock:

Thought I seen you post about one. My bad.

Yeah now I will have to check out the new Mesa Rects. I think my Marshall territory is covered but I would like something better for metal land.

Do you know anything about the DVH cabs. I just found one used for around $400 but I really don't know.

Yeah I really love how heavy and uncompressed the Mak4 sounds.

Sorry, never heard of it, but if you have a Recto 4x12 then you have the most famous cab in heavy metal production so I wouldn't worry about it.

A trick I've found for dialing in the rec is to keep the treble high and the presence low. Really helps to get that Recto sound without the Recto fizz. Boost with a Maxon OD808 (that's what Ola and Greg use) and you have one of my favorite all time heavy metal tones.

I really dig your Mako clips.....and for some reason I'm LOVING your VHT Pitbull clip too, which model was that?

Also, I find the Dorado to be kinda "stringy" too....the trick is to turn the gain up to about 12:15 (to where the knob touches the last P in Preamp).....the higher you go from there the less stringy and more saturated it gets.

Don't remember exact model of the VHT Pitbull but it did have the graphic eq on it. It was actual RJF vht. He brought that and his herbert over.

That was fun dude. Apparently I like the 5150 and Freidman Super Lead. Not really that surprizing. Really diggin the Mak4 stuff. Sounds great. Herbert and VHT sound nice as well. :rock:

Great comparison

If your still there...

At 10 seconds on every clip there is almost an electric razor type modulation on the held bar chord. If you just start a bunch of files from there you'll hear it clearly.

I have a few of these amps and it isnt that bad here. So Im wondering if its the EMG's or the Tube screamer(I dont use pedals or EMG's) or possibly just the frequency clash of the 2 mics placement. In the studio, we fight this phenomenon whenever higher bar chords are played(its some kind of build up of harmonics) and its always hard to pin point what makes it the worst. But I always suspect symmetrical clipping from a pedal instead of tube distortion.

You can hear on the killswitch clip--it actually has the least of that buzzy sound---so they worked to minimize it.

Do you have any clips of the same thing without the Ts9 and/or the EMG's? Just for knowledge sake I think it would be interesting to see which amps have the least of this razor sound with pure distortion.

The Herbert is loaded with KT88's. Out of all the clips, the Herbert is the most crushing, to me.

The VHT is a CLX loaded with JJ EL34's, I'm liking this amp more and more as I use it.

Did you ever get a decent clip of my Cobra?
