I never could understand Eddie Vedder.

I was into Pearl Jam at the time because I was late teens and impressionable but now I just remember the whole grunge movement as the music that killed good music. 80's metal had set itself up to be toppled by being to predictable and formula so if it hadn't been grunge it would have been something else. There was some good stuff in the 90's, and a whole lot of shit. Lead guitar playing has never recovered in the mainstream. Somehow it became uncool to know how to play your instrument.
Most of the "good" music of the 80's was already dead at that point, or was so played out and lame that it didn't matter anyway. And some of it went on despite the 90's movement.

Pearl Jam was always more like a 70's rock band than a "grunge" band. Same with soundgarden. Alice In Chains was and still is better than most of what came out of the 80's. STP wrote some amazing rock songs that had nothing to do with "grunge" and are still valid and just as amazing today. The 90's were good because rock was about writing good music again. It was much needed.

love "10"..."vs." was ok...the rest sucks IMO

I'm with you on this...it's almost like after VS, they lost thier special powers...like that scene in Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park.

I was never into Pearl Jam, but Eddie Vedder's solo album is one of my favorite records of all-time.

Oh shit,i thought i was going crazy when i heard this stuff when it came out,i'd look at a friend of mine and say "what'd he say?" "Did he say that" "WHAT" good shit, think his HUGE EGO did the lyrics.

Hilarious

I never was huge into the 90s Seattle movement when it happened, I was too busy with Painkiller and Rust in Peace type stuff. In the late 90s, at now defunct Tower Records, Pearl Jam released dozens of live shows on cd from their tour....I thought, I'll grab the Seattle show, that should be good---worst live CD quality ever, unlistenable. I imagine the rest of the live cds boasted simialr quality  Equally bad is the tune "I'm Alive" I saw on SNL, awful awful awful. These days I do hear a few tunes I like from that era/genre, but these hit bands weren't exactly world class musicians

So much feeling in PJ! Love that band to this day, no question ten was one of the best albums! Whatever, man, this is some funny shit!

Speaking of Pearl Jam... IMO Pearl Jam went to sh*t when they got rid of Dave Abbruzzese, one of the best feel and aggressive drummers I've ever seen... Just listen to the comparison of the Even Flow

Without Dave Abbruzzese

With Dave Abbruzzese

and even worse is the version with Matt Cameron... what a mess... no feel, just holding a beat.

Matt Cameron should have never been in Pearl Jam... He is perfect for Soundgarden, Chris Cornell's solo stuff and especially Temple of the Dog... maybe he just does better when Cornell is at the helm.

I loved Ten, and I think Pearl Jam are pretty good. Lots of the later stuff sucks though. I could always understand Vedder just fine.

I can't understand how people rag on pearl jam

Can anyone understand rammstein? Still bad ass

Not just anyone puts out a first album like ten. Changed my life, and a lot of people I know for that matter.

I never liked him due to the fact I could never understand him either....
The band was OK, but nothing special

Can't seem to figure out why I seem to give a shit but I never read much positive next to that avatar so what is it that you consider special...

Sinead O'Connor?

I can never understand him either. Overall I get bored of that whole band. Never could catch my ear.
