I'm glad I stayed away from all of that stuff. I was only around two family members that did drugs at one point and I hated how it made them someone I didn’t recognize.

Alcohol is a drug. Alcoholics are drug addicts. Saying "drugs and alcohol" is like saying "Cars and Toyotas" or "Sports and baseball". Just because drugs are legal, doesn't mean that they aren't drugs. I mean, doctors can prescribe fentanyl.

Yeah, I was in total shock to learn that the members in VH were into drugs and drinking. I never in million years would suspect they would do anything like that, especially with the type of music and personalities they are.

It's just recently come to my attention that David Gilmour had an addition to cocaine in the 1980s that may have lasted into the early 1990s. I know there's no reason why Gilmour would ever want to tell that public such a thing at the time he was doing it, but it still surprised me. I never would have thought Gilmour would be in the grip of that vice.

I also learned that Gorillaz / Blur frontman Damon Albarn had a problem with heroin in the late 1990s. He just doesn't come off as the type that would get involved with that stuff. Glad he was able to get off of it because I know heroin can be extremely long and painful to overcome.

Anyway, not judging these guys and I don't think any less of them. It just surprised me because I never would have suspected. I guess I was naive. Also, I suspect the pressure was huge for these guys. I'll never understand that kind of pressure.

You gotta do LSD sparingly. Once here or there will last you a while, but if you use it frequently, it will get away with you. I suffered from Hallucinogenic Persisting Perceptions Disorder (HPPD) for the better part of a decade, even after finding sobriety. I just learned to live with the world being a little swirley.

Maybe that's why I love phasers so much.

I knew I didn't have the kind of nervous system to handle acid. A few of my friends said it was no big deal, but I just considered it too risky. Pot was already a very intense thing for me anyway, so I didn't want to go further than that.

I still have a hard time imagining Gilmour doing coke. It just seems so contrary to his personality. He's always seemed more like a wine or beer kind of guy.

I used to enjoy a bit of coke now and then, but there's several reasons why I don't anymore. First off, it's a very expensive habit. Also these days, it's tough to find stuff that isn't cut with all kinds of garbage. You have no idea what you're putting up your nose. The main reason is that if I do a few lines on Friday, it fucks with my sinuses so bad that they will be blocked almost solid for a week. No thanks, not worth it.

I lived with an acid dealer for about two years when I was about 20. It got to the point that doing two 4 ways wouldn’t even make you peak. When I finally stopped it took about 6 months to get my shit straight.

I've known multiple people with HPPD

I had a hallucinogen stage at one point in my life too, but I always spaced it out a lot because I understood how bad it was for you to drop multiple times in a week, etc etc

If you've ever had a flashback, you know it can be rough - especially if you are driving a car, operating machinery, etc

And those fuckers have to deal with it 24/7

Lots of times people end up like Syd and are permanently fucked
