Jeff Scot Soto couldn't hit the notes, I have 2 soundboard shows and there's plenty of youtube clips to prove it. The album they did with Augeri, Arrival was the last Journey album I really liked.

Perhaps you do, but I saw Soto live with them and he was amazing. Hit the notes and sounded enough like Perry while adding his own flavor. He was excellent as a front man for them as well and I was really looking forward to hearing them record together, but, of course, that never happened. I got to see Journey several times with Perry in the late 70s/early 80s and Soto did the band justice when I saw them...

I saw Jeff with Yngwie just before the release of Marching Out and he is one helluva vocalist and great live. One of my favorite singers...

I thought Soto was great in Malmsteen's band too, but Journey needs a tenor to sing their material and there were plenty of notes Jeff was ducking.
They just sounded like Soul Sirkus with Soto IMO

^^ This... When I saw them, he killed on vocals, had a lot of energy and really worked the crowd. He wasn't trying to be Perry (like Arnel clearly is...) and added his own twist. Everyone there was expecting Augeri and you could sense the "what the hell" feeling when Soto came out - but that was gone 30 seconds into the first song. Kind of a moot point at this stage...

I was a HUGE fan of Steve Augieri and to me, he was just as good as Perry( I know, Im in the vast minority). Incessant touring and pushing by Schon cost that cat his voice, hes done for good. He ended up with a terrible vocal cord infection, schon wouldnt give him time off and voila, he was finished. Perhaps Neal learned a lesson with Augieri and will give Arnel a rest if he shows any signs of fatigue.... Either that or he thinks that he can just go to youtube and find another Perry clone...

I felt the same way man. I prefer the Live in Vegas DVD over the Manilla one any day. Augieri had the look and the voice. Didn't know about him being done for good though. That's a bummer, as I really would have liked to have heard him on other new stuff.

All I know is what I saw and he was phenomenal that night. Wasn't ducking anything. Perhaps he sucked ass at other shows - I have no idea. Don't know what you're talking about referring to "Journey needs a tenor". Soto IS a tenor. What do you think he is a baritone??

I did not hear anything you did, thought they were fine for a gig wedged between skyscrapers and 75% humidity.

I take back my earlier post, i've supported Journey since the 70's and will continue to do so, Neal is a Virtuoso in every sense of the word, not really into Blackstar though.

You need that much crap to get tone - then IMO you're on crack.

One guitar, one amp, one guitar chord...and an audience that couldn't care less about your montage of shit gear.
