Damn, there goes my savings for the past couple weeks

Merry Xmas my friendz.... As my thread continues, All I want for Xmas is

Rhodes Colossus/Conford MK50II/VH4/New PT100....

...and Emma Stone. Cheerz and a safe and Happy Holiday to you all!!

gday fellas

i was in a similar boat deciding with some of these amps

My shortlist was:

Bogner 20th XTC (changed to EL34's)
Marsha Friedman
Cameron CCV
Diezel VH4
CAE PT100

After hours of ABing, youtube clips, recordings etc...
I mean i listened to James Lugo's Amp fest stuff + his high gain shootout, the danish high gain shootout, tonefinder, youtube, forums, you name it I did it.
It got to the point I burnt the amp tracks in my car & could distinguish amps by their voicing, after a couple months of that I got a feel for what I liked and didnt like. I nailed it to the above list what i liked.

For my musical & tonal objectives here's what ive learned:
Bogner XTC - versatile, has that silky smoothness, romantic leads.. but it just didnt get down & dirty enough for me.
PT100 - wasn't convinced of the voicing, lacked a certain something. a great amp that cover almost any sound.
vh4 - was very versatile but i wanted something less hifi sounding & more tubeish if that makes sense..
a great modern sounding amp, well designed, for me the voicing wasn't what i wanted, but was still addicted to it!!

all the above amps are in the top 5% of their field by far.
all of these would cut the mustard, their voicing is what resonates with each of us differently

enter the Cameron CCV
Its what I decided on for a few reasons

it just has the conviction & authority in an amplifier im looking for, it is a simple layout + boost on OD channel, cherry on the cake for me
there's something about the gain stage voicing that makes this amp special. its complex, bold, dark, articulate, mysterious & illusive..kinda like the way i drink my drink. There is always a trade off, it doesn't do a million things really really well, it does a few things better than the rest.
To my ears it is undoubtedly the best hot rodded marshall tone that side of the planet going around & I can't wait for it to be delivered!

You people that think one amp is enough are crazy. They are not like women ... they do not get jealous. The idea you can check out amps over the web is a illusion at best. You need to play on it to see how it fits you.

The nail on the head right here......

Hard to hear feel, if that makes any sense. Unfortunately, I am not very local to try before I buy. So, I just make a hobby of shipping

But, trying to find the one takes some time, money and conviction. Or, just live with it and play. Like Steve says, maybe setting for the TWO and be out.

Steve (the other one)....

I must admit when I saw the new Rhodes on Facebook last week it looks very impressive.....

Yes there seems to be at least a few of us Steve's around, part of the reason I use my birth spelling.(I am kind of down to 5 amps I use a lot more than the rest.)

The CCV has a simple layout? Really?

They're all great amps. I honestly don't think I could own just one amp. But I've had many over the years and I'm happy to say that (for now) the VH4 and Chupacabra are my favorite. BUT... I'd love to get my hands on the following: :D

Wizard Metal
Cameron CCV
Fortin Bones or NATAS
Cameron Aldrich/Ocean/Jose/Cali

But I don't think you can go wrong with any of 'em.

As my mind sits on Xmas morning, Im split between the Rhodes Colossus and Cornford MK50II.. VH4 is still there in the running.. Hoping to get my hands on a Rhodes in a couple weeks and run thru it for a couple days and see what I think. Kyle is a damn good dude and inspiring builder. He's gonna be around for a long time i believe!! Merry Christmas all you tone searchers and riff makers

To the OP, Channel 2 on the VH4 with gain at noon and MV at noon will tear any Marshall pedigree a new assh@le. Just sayin'....

You are fucking high dude! Guess everyone should sell me their 67 plexi's cheap right! and CH2 on VH4 is lack luster to me -- CLIPS!!!!! I always enjoy your posts but, You are fucking high dude! haha

Having played a large selection of amps over the years, when I went to the VH4 Ch2, I immediately thought "jumpered Plexi with everything on 10. It was fantastic.

hahaha Ventura, It's just that you are not alone! For me Marshall is so different then the VH4 2__ But the OP kinda can't go wrong Diezel or CCV

Never been high in my life, so explain that, buddy. ;)

Figures of speech aside, Maybe you kids have been huffing Diezel?? j/k

I could own just one Amp ----- I think I own like 50+ now haha But a plexi with a bit -just a bit- of gain added or a perfect one stock.. That could be an amp that covers it all with just my hand control--

Plexi, for me Best cleans best distorted tone one channel! I would not expect everyone to like that solution though

I can honestly say that my Rivera KHR 55 has made it so I just don't lust after any other amp. I rarely even turn on my Rivera Duarte these days (even though it is just as awesome, ) although I do occasionally use my Marshall class 5 if I want something simple. The Rivera does everything I need.

Currently Rhodes Colossus/Cornford MK50II/New PT100/VH4/2 ch Fortin

Hopefully have my ONE and done "ME" rig shortly after NAMM. 4 Gigs coming up and then a few weeks off to demo and figure shit out. Cheerz

I was reading up on the Rhodes Artemis last night.... looks like it will be available with 3 different preamp voicing's combinations. All of his gear is very well thought out. The people that make his transformers I feel make the best in the world. Looks like he has several great products in the works right now.

Obviously all of the builders make great amps ..... it is only going to be what fits you and your needs best.

Its the CCV but I might be seen as biased but that doesn't change the fact that for what you describe its the CCV...

100% agree

Some Others I think might be worth researching:

Fortin
Suhr PT100
Mesa/Boogie MKIII Coliseum
Rhodes
Surreal Amplification

Been talking with Kyle quite a bit as of late. Such a good guy and knows his shit!! Im basically(without getting into specific tone qualities) looking for a channel switcher with a good clean, a pushed plexi into hot rodded marshall with room for a slightly more compressed/saturated voice, with an extra gain/ch for leads.

Right now Im leaning towards the Rhodes Colossus with the Cornford MK50II/VH4/New PT100 closely behind. I think Kyle is gonna be around for a long time and deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as the Fortins, Friedmans, Diezels, Bogners, etc.. For all you rackmounted fans.. Check out the upcoming Artemis!! Looks killer and should be an amazing piece of gear.. rhodesamplification.com

Now, back to the battle in my head......
