Pro's & con's of getting out of guitar playing / music gear.

I can never stop being a musician, and you can't play music without musical instruments. I can definitely whittle my collection down, as I only really need one good guitar. I justify more guitars because I'm gigging, so I need a backup. I got myself down to three basses a while back, and I was so much happier. I had the Spector twins for the band (fretted and fretless), and my first Spector to slap around the house. I don't need to flip basses because I love what I have.

I showed this to my 16 year-old son and he said "what a dork". I said "no, you don't understand. He's an upper-class white kid that got famous playing blues guitar...". He said "how famous?" I said "extremely famous on guitar forums".

As a father, I always had this vision of how cool it would be for my kids to have access to great guitars and gear, and naturally they'd be super into it right? Become better musicians than I am right?

Nope. Guitar was "something lame dad does" LOL.

As for giving up playing guitar and gear, nah, it has truly brought me a lot of joy for most of my life.
