Yup. And start retuning while holding the trem bar Down.
Pain. But that's setting up a Floyd. :D

Can't you just lower the trem body screws? The seem awfully high to me.
If you lower the trem body screws as is the strings will be too low and touching the frets, you need to put a reverse shim in between the neck and body, then tighten the floyd posts, this will bring the strings to a reasonable string height and the floyd will be much more parallel to the body

this his how mine is set up..

Gotcha. I didn't see how low the action was.
Yup. Business cards and old guitar picks work good too.
Just gotta make em Even or the neck will have the serious gangsta pimp lean to the side.
And can't forget about balsa wood :D

Got the guitar back but it's buzzing everywhere and the stock pickup is very metallic sounding when playing high gain...may have to rethink this.

Raise up the trem a turn or two on each screw....then lower the pickup a wee bit. Pretty simple stuff

Definitely needs a new pickup. Mine doesn't buzz at all though. Plays just fine :)

This is why I learned to do my own setups.

Well, I'm late to the party, but fuck it. I just ordered one of these too. Does anyone know anything about the pickup in it? Output? DCR? Magnet type? I'm pretty sure it is not the EVH Frankenstein humbucker, but can't seem to find anything on what the pickup actually is or who it's made by.

It's a EVH Wolfgang, higher output 13k I believe

Thanks! I'm hoping I'll like it without a pickup swap! I'm sort of hoping it is an A2 magnet pickup.

I tried 4 or 5 different pickups in mine (Duncans, Dimarzio, Suhrs) and ended up going back to the stock wolfgang pickup. That one ended up working best in the EVH.

Some days I really love the sound of my EVH guitar; other days I feel like I wish it had more edge/attack instead of having that smoother tone that you tend to get from a basswood body and no maple top. The basswood definitely results in more muted highs and lows than I want for certain types of playing. It tends to sound a bit soft, with rounded edges, and not enough top end zing and sizzle like early VH has.

Overall, the guitar does sound good though. The neck is really impressive and the fretwork is pretty much perfect on the one I grabbed.

Cool. Thank you for the input! I'm hoping I will like the stock pickup too. I'm guessing from what I am reading around different forums, and from what you have said, that the stock Wolfgang pickup may be an A2 magnet. I'm hoping the fret work and set up is good on mine. I can handle the Floyd set up, neck adjustment, etc., if it isn't, but I can't do fret work.
