I think an MP1 was used for the first Skid album, then they moved to Rivera for Monkey Business..

1st album was mostly Marshall Jubilee's from what I've read, then Rivera's on STTG.

Is there a current Rivera production model that has the same tone as the M100?

Rivera reissued the stereo S120 a few years back which is what STTG was recorded with. I think the earlier Knuckleheads were an evolution of the M100 Circuits with more gain and a boost function on the lead channel, they have the same layout with the focus function alongside the presence, not sure on the Pull mids notch feature on the Knuckleheads.

The tight grindy gain structure is still all Rivera style with the KTRE but the mids are different but it can be dialed in close. I love it but you won't sound like Steve Vai Bogner smooth tone with it.

First album was ADA MP-1 and the Groove Tubes preamp they referred to as 'the Chevy", amongst Marshalls.

Nice! Before I contacted Jason Bieler I was reading about the M100 having the same circuit as the 1SL, just not as much tweakability. Almost ordered one..let us know how you like it!

They come up from time to time on ebay...last TBR 1SL I saw the guy was asking 1200 for it. I did see an M100 on GC.com for 649.00...supposedly the M100 has the most popular TBR mid selection built into the circuit, so it should come close to the TBR tone.

I have an M100 and it has the PULL notch on the mids in spades and the focus pot which I think is essential for Slave to the Grind. I use my SRB808 in SD1 mode as that smooths out the ragged grindy Rivera crunch that you hear on the album that makes it sooooo killer IMHO! I love the amp it has the tone without studio magic. I read they used Michael Wagner's S120 which is basically a stereo version of the M100 and TBR's.

FWIW they used M100's and Rivera cabs(not sure what speaker) for the STTG tour and their tone live was awesome as well as evident by the Youtube vids.

I also have a Rivera KTRE with a SRB808 out front that gets close to the tone, it doesn't have the exact mids but it has a ton more low end which is nice. Rivera was one amp I kept passing on trying for years and when I finally did I really dug them and I'm a die hard Marshall aficionado.
This..I too am a Marshall guy..when I first played the TBR I thought that this amp really has a great Marshally vibe but with a more modern twist..If you like Marshalls you'll like the M/S and TBR series Riveras...

This amp was a little complicated at first but I think I figured it out....I have all the push/pulls out for maximum gain-age and I have Middle "Notch" setting down to 1 for maximum chunk. Reading above, EMGs get me the tone to a "T" so I am assuming you'd need a boost to push this over the edge using passive pups. But this is definitely the "Slave" tone.

I'll work on a vid whenever I can get to it.

Killer amp and the nastiest thing to hit my mancave since the Cameron Old Bitch.

No Pun intended the M100 has this cool clanky grind to it. I think my mid pot is pulled set to5-6 and the focus around 5, the focus is another setting you need to mess with to get it set. And for maximum gain I believe the bass pot is pulled as well. You almost need to manual to set this thing up right. Don't be afraid to bump the front end with a SD-1, according to all accounts that was what was used on STTG. You'll see what I mean when you do. Oh yeah almost forgot...

Just looked at my TBR settings..Bass pulled, at 7..treble pulled, at 6. Mids left in, 6. Slope at 1, presence at 6 focus maxed. Master to taste, channel 1 volume no greater than 6 or it gets compressed. Then a Boss GE7 mid boost plus level pushed a bit..awesome. Rivera=underrated!

Just had a look at mine as well. Volume(far left)(gain) 7 Bass/pulled 6-7 Mids/pulled 5 Treble/pulled 6-7 Master(wherever you need it(2-5) Then I run an SRB808 in Asymmetric clipping SD-1 mode as a clean boost into a 1x12 Thiele cab with a WGS retro 30.

The SD-1 really tightens things up nicely and just rounds off a bit of the ragged grind just enough and just finishes pushing the amp over the edge tonewise making it super punchy. That's my STTG setting to my ears it might help you get to yours.

I'm glad to hear the you ears hear the same attributes that mine do with the M100, it's really unique and I know a lot of people would not like it, but I do.

The link I posted above in my earlier post has a video of Scotti's actual amps with the settings on them from either the recording or the tour so that should also help get you in the ballpark.

they mentioned in a 1991 interview that they used an old Marshall cab with 100 watt celestions for the tracking....and they were all about the BBE Sonic Maximizers then too.

here is Scotti's Rivera from that period...with the settings.
