Damn that is badass !
Wonder what speakers were used with that clip.

That's not an SLO, it's another model from them forgot what it is.

All of his clips regardless of the amp have a certain signature production sound to them, just imo.

Sounded cool though...

Wonder why he shows a SLO in the vid though , that's misleading..
Well it sounds like my HR100+ amp with a detuned guitar after i listened to it again.
The HR100+ has more of a modern edge to it than the SLO , but the SLO can get mean as well if you set it up right.
I still think it sounds badass.

It is a Hotrod 100 - modified with SLO style Colletknobs

Speakers are Mesa Stiletto/Traditional w/ V30

This is all SLO with an SM57 into a Mesa 4x12 oversized Recto cab. Of course, I'm playing all of the guitars. It's the rough mix. I forgot the bass was in this mix. We do all of our own work. Guitars are a PRS Singlecut with stock pickups and a Gibson Les Paul Classic Plus with Suhr Aldrich pickups in both spots. We play modern rock.

Great stuff, Dale!! That should be in a movie soundtrack!!

My experiences with playing an SLO is that the Low E folds (for palm mutes) just as the gain gets interesting on the lead channel. The A string will still give a good tight palm mute. This is using a Gibson's with medium output Hum's and I'm talking about the lead channel getting up to 4 and above on the preamp. I would rather just use it for leads and hit the crunch setting with a pedal to do rhythms. I love the crunch setting on that amp. Now what you could accomplish with a Bolt On guitar and different pickups or an EQ in front, I don't know.

Perfect description.

My SLO sounds nice and tight on palm mutes on the low B of my seven string super strats with high-ish output pickups (Tone Zone 7 and Holy Diver) and the gain up to 5 on the OD channel. Beyond 5 on the gain knob is just completely insane IMHO, so I've never spent any real time there. Not as tight as the VH4, but sounds great to me for what I like to play (AiC type hard rock/metal).

SLO has been on a couple Killswitch Engage records I believe. I want to say the As Daylight Dies record for sure has it.

I'm a pretty big Silverchair fan. Daniel Johns was known to use a Soldano SLO 100 through a Marshall cab live and in the studio. I read an article once that his setup on the Diorama record was kept pretty barebones. Here's a couple from that album:

One Way Mule:

The Greatest View

Now I have to go listen to this album again...

Not a SLO but still in the Family.
Ola Englund Tearin' up a
Soldano Hot Rod 100 Plus,
circuitry based on the SOLDANO 100w SLO.

I thought Daniel Johns used a Soldano Hot Rod?

He used a SLO for Frogstomp for sure. I'm close to positive that he used one on Diorama, too.

Says Hot Rod here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Johns

Wikipedia says HR, GuitarGeek says SLO, a bunch of forums say both

I guess for the sake of OP's post, you could argue that you could dial up a pretty decent Silverchair tone with either.

But back to OP, Big Wreck used Soldanos for the core their sound on the second record. Ian still uses one and brings it in and out of his live setup with a volume pedal.

Ladylike:

Modern stuff can definitely be done with a SLO

I remember a thread about this from some time ago. Johns didn't go the Soldano route until after Frogstomp was recorded. The first album is jcm900. I'm more inclined to believe it's a 900 because it doesn't sound like a SLO at all to me. The other albums were Hot Rod 100s. He used two, one for clean, the other for dirt.
