I spoke to Scott on Friday and I am very excited about this amp. If he can retain the competitive price point this amp will be a game changer.

That's what I wanted to hear!!

Now that we are back on track, can one of you guys who spoke to him explain why it is going to be a "game changer"? Is it a stripped down quickrod with special features like B+ etc etc or something totally tricked out?

JeriEvil has the answer but I wouldn't want him to half to PM 35 people so I'm basically asking him if it is something he can post in here to share with us or is Scott trying to keep it on the low down?

Almost every resistor on that board is bypassed. LOTS of gain happening on that PCB most likely. Looks like the first few stages of a typical Marshall cascaded circuit with quite a few voicing tweaks.

Lots of switching capabilities, more/ different gain features. Newer clean EQ

I'm buying one asap!

New clean EQ is cool. I always thought the QR clean was a little too bright to try and get a Fender sound.

And I thought the Cameron thread was cool..arguing about resistor values.. .this is so awesome!

Its still a QR........but its going to be loaded with features.........

BTW - those are not CMF60 resistors. CMF60 resistors do not have the color bands. They look like this:

It's worse than that. I was actually thinking about the Dale RL20 resistors. :cheers2: What's the difference, they all sound the same - right?
Pretty much. :) The ones with the color bands are prettier though...

I have to disagree with Bruce Egnater. There is a huge difference between Takman REY, Dale RN60, and Xicon MF resistors in terms of gain structure and tone. I know, for I have used all three of these in the same amplifier. The stock Xicon's emit a very musical, saturated type distortion, Dale are very clean - too clean IMO. Takman's are a go-between. May be the perfect resistor for my amp, but I think I prefer the stock Xicon's. If I were building amplifiers, I personally would not use Dale resistors.

i am quoting the gif

These resistors even make differences in pedal circuits. I prefer the large amplifier sized dale for my pedals based on tone.

So I've been doing some youtube surfing. I really like the sound of Splawn OD1 channel with the various gears. One thing i would like to hear from people who have quick rods is, are they EQ'd on the bass side more than a standard Marshall 2204? There is a lot of cut and crunch but there also seems to be a lot of low end. Is that my imagination or is this how they are voiced? I tend to prefer mids over big bass.

How in the world does a Splawn amp thread .........Drag Mark Cameron into it??

:hys: :hys:

Just made my rainy day a good one reading this.

If you go back to 2008-2011 era on Rig Talk, every Cameron/Splawn thread turned into a huge battle between the two camps. There were some epic thread/battles. Good stuff!
