What’s a major scale? Seriously. I know a pentatonic or blues scale. Nik tried explaining it to me once but I had kids running around and the kept asking me shit so I couldn’t concentrate on anything…. I literally have no experience with this stuff… I just beat on it and hope for the best….

Same. My knowledge of music theory is roughly:

Major = happy notes. The stuff you learn in preschool. 80's hair metal. Most all rock and roll in general.
Minor = sad notes. The stuff you learn later. Real metal. Grunge. Blues.

That pentatonic scale he's showing in that video is a top notch lesson. He was showing it in a minor setting but I use all those same notes plus a couple others for dominant 7th blues stuff with a major feel. There is a lot of mileage you can get out of that. I wish someone had shown me the same scale 20 years ago, I had to figure it out through trial and error.
