was Silverchair and their shitty JCM900 4100 dual reverbs. ive read interviews where he said they cranked them to kingdom come, and i believe it as that amount of searing gain with that compressed honk is only something achievable with volume.

There’s a coool nastiness too it

I don't think Tomorrow is the best representation of the band either. Israel's Son was great and I don't think I could have written a song like Pure Massacre when I was their age that's for sure. On their sophomore release he was using a Soldanos through a 1960 412s and had an absolute roaring live tone.
SLO’s ? Never new that

The tones that really struck me the most were:

Sad but True - Metallica
Drag the Waters - Pantera
We Die Young - AIC
Faget - Korn
Bury Me in Smoke (outro riff) - Down
Don’t Damn Me - Guns n Roses
Thru The Eyes of Ruby - Smashing Pumpkins

Probably because some of these were also some of my favourite 90s riffs….

My band covers WDY. My tone is somewhat close to the OG. Thick mids. My rhythm guitarist has this weird mindset when it comes to tone. He runs EMG loaded Epiphones into a EVH 50w head. Blue channel but his pups are about 1/4" away from the strings. Hes got no sustain or balls to his crunch tone. He insists starting that song but his tone doesn't fit that intro at all
