Hi Robby G. Thank you for the kind words. Messages like this are rewarding for the amount of time, work and thought that goes in to doing this on a budget.

DAW...Mac and Apollo...great choices. :)

Ya, this is definitely one of if not the cooolest thread RT's seen in a while - literally from breaking ground up; what an awesome play by play.

This place is going to be killer!!! I'd be happy if this was my HOUSE let alone a jam space/studio

Hi Ventura. Thank you for the kind words as well. "Literally" is a great word for this thread. If it gives you ideas or helps you resolve any future building questions you may have then there is some good that came out of this.

Please stay tuned for more. :)

Here it is another week of building completed. What Randy Pekinto and myself have accomplished is building two 2'x4' double sided gobos for stacking purposes, kick drum tunnels, and general positioning anywhere in the studio. We also completed building two 6'x6' rolling gobos that are also double sided as well. The furniture dollies from Harbor Freight were just to hard to pass up on sale at about $9.00 each. Since the big gobos are so damn heavy I needed to make sure there was a way to move them around the studio without someone getting hurt. As per always, my wife selects the fabric that we use which is invaluable to me. And then when I need to move the heavy stuff that I can't maneuver alone my friend Anthony Rodriguez gets involved.

In getting the big gobos out this is where Anthony came in really handy because on the day that we moved them from the garage to the studio the wind was brutally in motion and it made moving those out a challenge for even two people. None the less they go put out there.

What I think is unique about all these gobos is that they are absorbent on both sides and there is a once inch air gap in the center. Behind the mineral wool is Euca board (pegboard minus the holes) and there is peg board also used in the panels.

I hope you enjoy these pictures.

Here we are with some more progress towards bringing the studio to life. Randy and myself sat down and discussed an unorthodox way of doing a mixing desk and we had two goals we wanted to accomplish. The first was to find a way to keep the engineer's ears in the sweet spot 70% - 80% of the time. Secondly, we decided to make the desk more modular which in turn means we are thinking of ways to reduce maintenance costs. Since there's always a lot of talk about using 500 series modules for an analog front end that's what Randy and I decided to do. We also thought that by not having a traditional mixing console everything else would be easily repairable and swappable thus saving on the cost of having to get under the hood of a console when things fail inside of a console. Essentially our goal was to create a cockpit with the desk and rear rack so that even if you have to turn around you are still largely in the sweet spot for mixing. The other goal of this set up was to keep everything in arms reach of an average height person (one that is 5'8"...which is not me).

I hope you enjoy these pictures.

Hi billsbigego. That is a great vote of confidence to state. I don't think it will be the best studio on the planet. However, I think there's going to be a ton of character built in to the studio with stories and cool people being involved. I don't think it will be a bad studio either. I simply appreciate you stopping by and following this thread. if you're ever in the area please stop by for a visit. I'd love to show you the studio.

Somebody's been a busy beaver!
You're basically building my version of heaven

On a scale of 1-10, where are you on being completed? Also, whats the type of bands you're going to try to pull in and record once your up in running?

I actually PM'd them and asked about updates. I have not heard back yet. I miss the update threads.
