I hear you...I really really want him to do a Les Paul Custom for me this year. Maybe tax time or something. I've got a really weird idea for one and it'd be nothing anyone ever saw before.

And last but not least, here's his take on the Explorer...it's called a Kraken. Check out that righteous neck joint:














 
And new stuff coming down from my boy at Short Guitars:



These should both end up being flat top LP shapes-hard tails, with one using a TOM and the other a Schaller roller bridge.
 
Stain started for this Kraken model:



This should get kind of a faded blue finish...he's gonna hit it with some nitro and this should look like blue glass when he's finished. Stoked to see it when it's done.
 
Wow. Those guitars look incredible. The blue explorer with the binding looks amazingly well finished.
 
I love his work! Someday I'll have to get one. Don't know what I'd get but no matter what I know it'd be amazing.
 
Couple more shots....that fretboard I posted earlier in the thread goes on this one....lacewood flat top LP shape....Hipshot bridge, and the heel will be blended like the Kraken above is.

So I'm only over a month late commenting on this....glad to see you decided to give him a shot. Post some build shots when you get em and I'd really like to hear what you think of it when it's done. I love my GT more than any other guitar I've ever owned....it's gone thru numerous iterations with hardware and pickups, and responds to them all beautifully.....currently it's got an EMG Het Set in it, and rocks em like a champ.

Something cool sowed up in the mail today. Daniel was talking a while back about doing COAs for the guitars he's done.

He got em done and threw it in the mail; let me know it was coming so I'd look out for it. What he didn't tell me was he was gonna throw in some picks and a SG shirt....took me a minute, but I realized that he'd personalized the shirt. #003 is my guitar, the 3rd one he built, and her name is Ginger...that's what's on the TR cover. Just figured GT, and I'm a redhead, so the name fit. Cool stuff....

@Steinmetzify, sorry to dredge up this years old thread, but I just picked up a Short Hydra second hand. I was hoping I could get some of the specs, but It seems like Daniel stopped building years ago. Do you have any current contact info?

Yeah he got married and had twins, no time for guitars anymore.

If you’re on FB look for Daniel Short, he should still be active on there, I know his brother Dennis is.
