Interesting how an 'Unpopular Rig-pinion' thread holds some of the more civil discussion here.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I'm mid-50s and I fully realize that the whole older gen v younger gen has been going on since Socrates (there is even a quote that says similar). I don't begrudge anyone for playing/liking what they do because I remember being there when I was younger.

I also think that to some degree the younger gen is going to find something they think is cool that the older gen hates. That's part of the allure, it automatically makes it more cool. Just the way it is, again since Socrates. When I was young, tattoos were head turners. That alone was prob enough to make it cool for the next gen. I think good ones look cool as hell, but I still don't have one nor want.

You've nailed it, very VERY well put.

- Dime's tone fit the band and his attitude more than made up for it. he put every ounce of his soul into every riff, solo and performance. i would take that kind of person 100% of the time over someone who is more focused on gear.

- many people i trust are telling me i am getting the best tones i have ever had with a helix into ss quilters. who knows?!? i just know its fun to play this rig so i am going to keep doing it.

- music and gear elitists generally suck the fun right out of everything and most of the time don't have the chops to warrant their opinions.
 agree with everything in the above quote!
Use/play what works best for you and to hell with everything else!

Find commonality, don't be ignorant. And if you don't like it, move on.

So people who don't like what you like are ignorant? Maybe you should be the one to just move on, do what you like and not care about what "old dudes" think. Unless of course you secretly want those old dudes to recognize and appreciate what you do. It seems to matter to you a lot.

Move on from what? We have nothing to move on from, we are still trying to just enjoy our stuff. I'm simply pointing out a phenomenon and discussing it in a forum dedicated to such discussion.

I do what I like, an album a year and plenty of gigs. And that is exactly what draws in these older folks who aren't gigging, aren't recording albums, but are happy to vomit their opinions because they saw Ozzy at his peak.

You've read too deep into the conversation, and are projecting. I'm simply pointing out my experience, as everyone else has been pointed out theirs.

Move on from giving a shit what older people or anyone for that matter thinks of newer music..
Lol...this is why older people think younger people are such fucking tools. Projecting? Peojecting what exactly? I'm not the one complaining about not being looked at with an.open mind while at the same time making very generalistic and disparaging comments about an entire generation "vomiting their opinions because they saw Ozzy at his peak". So do you "draw in" the older folks with your skills and talent as a trap for us mere mortal, old codgers to be belittled for our simple ways and archaic opinions. Meanwhile you also worship the shit that generation created. It's fucking life. Some shit just doesn't mix. You dig what a generation created but cry about how they don't return the favor. They don't owe you anything. We don't owe you anything. Create what you want and if you get an audience that digs it..well..its just not that complicated.

Yeah we don't care what the critics say, hence why the metal scene is thriving and I love being part of it. Makes me happy.

Older people don't think young people are f**** tools, just the few hot heads with a chip on their shoulder.

Your projection was saying "you secretly want those old dudes to recognize and appreciate what you do. It seems to matter to you a lot." That's projection, as it's assuming and pushing an idea, that probably is something you've experienced yourself.

I've been very cordial, always made it clear this isn't all older people, just the odd emotional fragile ego. The only one generalizing on mass is the quote: "why older people think younger people are such fucking tools"

"old codgers to be belittled for our simple ways and archaic opinions." Again, I've said nothing of the sort.

"cry about how they don't return the favor" Again, projection. I've posted the experiences I've had when sharing my music. Abusive messages and unkind words from people who have a chip on their shoulder.

Here is the video of me, let's do a test. Does it make you angry? If so why? What particular? And why does it make me a f**** tool?

Actually you just confirmed what a tool you are with everything you just said. I wont bother explaining it to you as you can't comprehend the written word....and posting your video of making your next Madison Square bedroom album means what exactly?Rock on with your bad self numb nuts.

When the debate reaches a point of contention, call the other person too stupid to understand your high IQ response. Classic argument from authority ;) "The fucking tool just presented a well thought out argument without resorting to personal insults... I'll just call him too stupid to understand my response"

Everyone else has been civil, decent and fun to talk with. There is always one

I posted the video to see if you were gonna be nice and squeeze out some humility or support, probably have lots in common really.

If you want to prove your generation is humble, start by not calling me and my generation "fucking tools." Ironically a lesson my Father (who's 60+) taught me. Otherwise you risk seeming more immature than a 28 year old.

Some unpopular Rig-pinions:

- Hendrix was slop city, given way too much credit because he passed away
- the 80’s were a lot like today, you had to search and find cool guitarists, music and bands. Pop music has always dwarfed heavy guitar music in sales and popularity.
- Shit music and players have always been around, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s were no different
- you do not need to be a great guitarist to own high-end gear or know/talk gear

Hey ghosty... Nice move posting a video of yourself amidst the talk here, and quite the 80's feel you have going on there. QUESTION: I was about to ask why faces aren't being shown in the video until it occurred to me...Is that all the same guy? (you)

Haha yeah that's me! It's hard to find younger dudes really into that AOR sound around my town, but I do have a singer now! She will take over vocal duties. Thanks for noticing though

1. Can't argue with that... he was sloppy, but still awesome like alot of blues players are. The Rolling Stones are a shit show live sometimes.
4. Agree, but the opinion holds much more merit when coming from a place of understanding, rather than observation.

Not my typical genre but I remember that sound and sort of 'closet' liking it. Or maybe because I associated it with getting laid is what made me kind of like it.  In any case, very well done and it looks like you enjoy it. Funny you mention the vocals because as I was listening I thought it would sound great if there was a female voice added (not replacing yours entirely tho).

Thanks man, I really really appreciate it. I was trying to go for the Mr.Mister style late 80s style ROMpler induced rock. I shall link the new album when it's done, we are about 4 songs down. Plenty shred

IIRC, those guys were better players than the music implied (Mr. Mister).

Just remembered my 'Missing Persons' phase.  Again, prob for the wrong reason. Saw her do a show in cellophane. :inlove:

They are fantastic musicians, they felt like band of top brass session guys! No shame in liking the old LA Session pop like Toto etc. Some serious tones and songwriting

Ok Here's one for you. The Mark IIC+ doesn't sound good in a live situation, and the average guy will never be able to get "that" tone out of it. It's also in tonal trouble if the second guitarist has anything British voiced.

Interesting! Does it require full volume in a controlled environment to get that swashy thick sound?

Hell yea...nice work. It's actually the type of 80s music I didn't like in the 80s (I was too deep into VH, Maiden, LA-bands, etc), but since I've aged...I like a lot of that poppy songcraft of that era, which your stuff captures really well.

It requires a lot of post.. Funny thing is when recording and playing solo they sound killer. In the live band mix I find they sound nasally & boxy right up to the point where the mids disappear.
