Wow thanks for all these cool amps to look at. The Helios is top of my list at the moment. Of course I got my last round of chemo last week and I cannot get off the couch at the moment but Ill be ok. The Helios might be available at the end of the week. Now if I can just find the courage to buy it....lol

There's an ecstasy half stack for sale locally for $3,400 if that is of any interest to you

Whats local?

Get the Helios !!!
It is just what the doctor ordered !!
I sold a carvin legacy to help fund my uberschall and sold my uberschall to help fund the Helios .
For the tone I like best the Helios does it .
Something about the raw yet clear gritty tone with massive sustain that does it for me .
I like the clips but I think amp is better live then the clips !

I can only find one 50 watt Helios but it looks like they are about to drop this coming week. I have it in my mind that I will consider the 100 watt helios if I can find a dealer with a 30 day return policy. The clips are unreal. That is crazy good tone and after getting hit by a car and then finding Im riddled with cancer I feel that if I want it than Im getting it.

Wow...that is some awful luck to have. Hope you get better and recover fully. Prayers out!

LANDRY LS 100 G3
That's a good suggestion. I got to play through Landry's stuff at Sgt.Thrump's place years ago, and it was killer. We were getting everything from early Rush to 80s hair metal, and I even pulled some modern metal tones out of it.

I remember someone there asked how it did for high gain metal tones, and everyone in the room turned around and looked at me   "Oh...ok. I'll see what I can do...." Didn't take long at all to get a really good sound with the boost engaged. I don't recall messing with the clean channel much, which I regret.

Since then, he has made a lot of updates to his amps too. I'm sure they sound even better now.

The Bogner Helios has been very difficult to locate. I did track one down with the help of a Bogner rep but the amp is in Texas ( where I cant demo it) and shipped/tax to me was $3,333.00. I have the money but Inwont lie the sticker shock made me think twice about needing that much amp. The 5153 Stealth covers my current playing needs so a Bogner is a complete ego cenctric purchase for me. Of course I fall in love with clips of an amp that has little to no chance of showing up more reasonably priced on the used market.

The Landry clips I have heard sound excellent also.

Its kind of back tonthe drawing board.mim rethinking a Mesa Lonestar head again too.

I really like the Lonestar stuff. I like the combo with the open back, gives the clean and mid gain sounds a really nice chime to them. I'd like to run one of those along with a Mark IV or something for higher gain. That would be a fun all Mesa rig.

You should also try out the old Mesa Stiletto, and the Transatlantic.

Check out the Ceriatone King Kong. A new one costs half that. I don't have one, but I do have a 100 watt Yeti. If it's anything like that and the clips I've heard, it's a total boner inducing amp. I do plan on pick up a KK later in the year though.

Another idea is granger amps
I have not played one but the clips sound nice .

I looked at Granger amps when I was looking at Marshall variants a few years back. I ended up with a QR instead ( 2 of them actually). I remember theGrangers sounding nice and being at a decent price point.

Im really struggling with spending 3k+ on an amp. Im surprised actually. The money is not an issue Im just really having a hard time justifying it. I know 2 guys who own a Bogner and a Diezel who have much lesser day jobs than I do. I want to buy that Helios something awful but then I think I could buy a used JVM and build a custom Carvin or Jon Hill / Bootleg guitar .

Oh I hate my inability to spend bravely...lol.

Do it man! With the shit you have been through and are going through you deserve to treat yourself.

The Helios is in great demand, and all Bogner amps hold their value, if not go up in price as time goes on. If you were to drop the cash on it and not like it/regret spending that much, you could easily flip it and get your money back. Maybe get the Helios + a different cheaper amp and compare the two? Sound vs Value. If the cheaper one ends up winning, you sell the Helios and spend a lot less.

I do the same thing as you when it comes to finances, especially with guitar stuff. I hate buying anything that is only useful to me. If it doesn't benefit my wife in some way, it'll be hard to get me to buy it. I bought a new acoustic guitar 13 months ago, and still feel guilty about it, but I know that having that guitar makes me happier, which makes me easier for her to deal with

Ironically exactly what my wife told me. I got ran over by a 16 year old while I was on a bicycle. I broke my pelvis in 4 places and had to have a screw put in to hold it all together. Then I end up with frigging cancer. I received settlement money for the accident and it has not been touched. I also return to work in 6 weeks which Im very excited about.

Ok....I just said way too much but your post got me. Why am I worried about money ? I guess my only thought is that I really want to do a custom Carvin build. Neil Zaza is even been kind enough to let me put my filthy hands on his collection so I can get a better feel for what I want. Shit.....I still get SSI/disability payments for months after I go back to work. And my family just got an 8 day trip to Disney so we did the family thing and my kids were thrilled.

Bogner Helios.

Dude, buy the amp. You know what you want and obviously have the change to pick it up. In my experience, not having to eat of the dollar menu for six months after you purchase an amplifier and knowing what specific amp you want are the two biggest pieces of the puzzle ! I'd bet you a six pack (after the whole chemo business is knocked out) that your nerves would subside after 15 minutes of playing the amp you really want.

Best of luck on a speedy recover, cancer and getting run over are a bitch.

Lol
I can understand that .
I'm sure all the high end amps sound good . Some better then others .
What I can say for me is the Helios gets the tone I have longed for since the 80's !
I got close with other amps , to me there is just a little something special about the Helios !
I have an early Ecstacy and it's great more versatile then the Ecstacy , not as raw or gritty with a little more gain , together it's eartopia !!!

Bogner Helios.
Crazy how life works..... If you hadn't gotten hit on your bike who knows when/if that cancer would have been discovered. Sorry for your troubles..but if ever the phrase 'things happen for a reason' fits this is it. Get the amp you've always wanted!

My patience is paying off. A forum member lives in my area and has the ampmso demoing now feasible. Also I found another dealer who has it who is not hitting me up with taxes or shipping ( j$300 difference).

I had an uberschall rev blue .
Sold it to buy the Helios .
If like drop tuning and metal it kills !!
Also does Alice n chains very well .
Clean is way less volume wise so much it's not much use .
It does more then just metal , but that's where it really breathes !!!
If you want 80's rock metal and like Bogner's and don't want to spend 3 grand ?
Find a used Ecstacy they sound great !!
Or a modded Marshall .
Although Uberschalls sound great for what they were intended if that's not your thing I would search elsewhere .
Just my 50 cents !!
Best of luck !!!

Jim
