I have had 2 QRs and agree. The price point on the used market is unbeatable.

After spending two days with my friends having a mini ampfest I learned a lot about Bogners, Diezel and Wizard amps. I also discovered that my Nitro sounds awesome with v30s and Tom aka Lord Tone King did me a solid and hooked me up with a pair of UK made v30s. So awesome.....thank you LTK !

The thing is I sound just like me no matter how expensive or cheap an amp is. I sound just like me. No better and no worse. I expected to be gassing so hard for a boutique amp when all was said and done and the opposite happened : I lost all gas.

Im going to stay with the Stealth and the Nitro. When the new EVH 5153-34 or whatever the hell it is drops Ill be all wanting one. I still might like another QR if it was a 3 pre or maybe an Uber for the right price but Im completely out of the boutique amp race.

I got a quote from Carvin on a build yesterday and I might have another comic graphic done on my Splawn ss2. I might have Jon Hill build me a Bootleg........and I might not do anything at all. I have hedged and changed my mind so many times that I think I need a gear break.
Isn't that the truth? We all have a tone in our heads, when we get new gear we still try to dial it in just like the last amp we had   I like upper mids, no one does that better than a good Marshall so....I have a marshall! OK maybe a Wizard might do it better but not much else. Find an amp you like, stick with it...sometimes the grass isn't always greener....

It's taken me a years and thousands of dollars to find-out that my preferred tone is like my shadow... it follows me around no matter what gear I get. Usually takes me just a matter of minutes or hours to tweak an amp the way I like it and that's pretty much where I stay. And it's always ME! So I would add one thing the hot button topic of tone being in the hands... it's in the hands AND the ears. Cause we all pretty much hear (or look for) what we WANT to hear.

Well Im glad to know Im not going crazy. I mean my wife gave me carte blanche to buy away and I dont want a thing. What is wrong with me ???

And the answer is : nothing is wrong with me. I found my tone already. I just did not know it.

Nah, I'm pretty sure your wife said to sell me your EVH Stealth head. And cheap. Ok. Thanks, Doug.

I agree that whatever amp you play it's still you .
But some amps just sound better and have a different flavor .
For me my search is over for amps .
I have all I need !
I would like some different effects .
Not sure why ? Lol I hardly even use the ones I have .

I had quite the email exchange with Scott Splawn today. He has a 2006 QR for sale and Im curious. Im going to try Lord Tone King's out and see what I think.

Scott says the old 3pre QRs were louder and more aggressive. He said with the 4 preamp QR he had to change the circuit and the circuit change was what made the 4pre not as aggressive and loud.

Scott stated that he could build a 4 preamp QR with the old 3 pre circuit in it. It will be loud but the loop volume could help. I then asked if he could do B+ option on it which would drop the watts and tame it a bit. He said he could do that and it would be a toggle switch for the B+ so you could use it or not use it. Scott referred to the 4preamp QR with the 3pre circuit as a Quickrod Classic. Adding the B+ toggle was an upcharge and to build a B+ Quickrod Classic would be $2100.

A lot to think about there !
