What is more important to rock/metal tones?

I'm going with the amp.

Or would you say something else? Player? Pickups? Pedals? Plectrums? Production? Penis? Personality?

Picks. Seriously. I have to chose the combination of everything. The Amp, the cab, speakers, guitar, pickups etc. But you take the same player through the same rig? You’ll be surprised how much difference the pick makes.

I think a Jim Root Tele with a Hotrails pup into a high gain amp would def get you there.

I’d cab construction is even more powerful than the speakers . I have 4 different cabs all with UK v30s and they are drastically different. You would swear they are all different speakers in each

id say 18% amp and 12% pickups. i listen to clips i did years ago and some of them i couldnt tell you which amp and guitar i used but i can always tell what speaker. mics are a big part of the equation too, maybe even more than amps and pickups

I just think 18% is too low for the amp IMO
Let's not worry about recorded tones - just getting the tone out the speaker is enough for now

I would say a good amp and humbuckers. Although some people will surprise you. I saw Baroness a few months ago and they were playing single coil strats into fenders and jazz chrous amps and they were quite heavy

We all kinda sound the same when we switch amps because our performance does that . Then the brand of amp is like top layer

You obsess over signal chain stuff though big time. So put a percentage on it.
