Andy LaRocque was the first guitar player that really made me what to learn to play. Cantrell was a huge influence. These days I get inspired from guys like Joe Bonamassa and Keith Urban.

With that said, my biggest influence has always been Jason Bieler from Saigon Kick.

David Gilmour. Made me realize I didn't have to play a million notes a minute, but make the ones I do play count.

Honestly, when I first started out? Paul Simon. Seriously.

When I got 'round to rock & roll and lead guitar, Tommy Shaw, hands down.

big influences ^^ solo to Renegade, although that's JY, got the spark going

And, of course Ace !!! not because he was such a great player, but just because

Brian May (Earliest recollection of electric lead playing. Albums: The Game and Flash Gordon Soundtrack)
Jimmy Page
John Petrucci
Nuno Bettencourt (syncopation, funk, and shreddding all in one guy)
Steve Vai
Joe Satriani
EVH

I would have to say #1 is Lynch....
then Demartini.

But the guy's that inspired me to pick up a guitar and play??

Ace Frehley and Angus Young :rawk:

No doubt about it!

When I was a kid I heard motley crüe shout at the devil and that got me into music, George lynch and Warren demartini made me wanna play guitar.

But as far as a player I wanna say zakk and hetfield is who has the most influence in my playing. I love lots of players but I can't play like lynch, demartini, setzer And a bunch of others, but if it wast for them I wouldn't have wanted to play.

Throughout my guitar transformation I have had a few guys that taught me a few things.

Dave Matthews when I learned the acoustic
The Edge when I picked up an electric
Jimmy Paige
EVH
Nuno Bettencourt
and now I have been listening to a ton of Stryper

Depends on the day I will just find some guitar player and try out his style for a while until I feel comfortable with it.

When I was a really young kid, The Beatles and Elvis made me fall in love with music. Then I saw Jimi on TV and was blown away by how friggin cool he was and what he was doing, He made me fall in love with the guitar. After that, There were just so many cool bands in the 70's from Zep to Sabbath and Deep Purple, To UFO and Thin Lizzy, Aerosmith , Kiss and Robin Trower and Frank Marino and so many more.. The guy that made me want to buy a guitar though was EVH hands down.

In the end, Ive been inspired and influenced by pretty much everything that I like but my main influences are Neal Schon and Michael Schenker with Steve Stevens,Frank Marino,Sykes,Zakk, and Gary Moore following close behind... I should also mention that Im inspired and influenced by alot of people here most notably Ralphie,H,Ant and Ed D.
I'm kinda like you..I think I was more inspired by music in general, bands like Kiss, Queen, Lizzy and Van Halen. But really, Paul Stanley...(I know insert jokes) but dude looked cool playing the guitar...and his guitars were cool.

Then the influences kicked in...Gary Moore, Scott Gorham, Rhoads...Vivian, Sykes and a ton of Adrian Vandenberg and Lynch. Man from albums like Black Rose to Out of the Cellar and everything in between was like a guitar dictionary. And most importantly it was freakin fun. I mean if people wanna hear early ripping fun go listen to Moore on Black Rose or Sykes on Thunder and Lighting...or perhaps the best fade out solo of all time in with Schon blazing on Any Way You Want It.

I hope the kids today feel the same way because I loved it...great bands, with great songs and great guitar playing. By the late 80's it was played out...cliche's and mindless noodling. I guess I was one of the few who didn't really mind when all that stuff was killed off by grunge scene...'cause there were some pretty cool bands like AIC and Soundgarden that influenced me as a songwriter. Oddly enough one album that influenced me greatly on guitar was Kiss's Revenge. Bruce was on fire on that album and I have to credit that album for pulling me back into solid guitar playing because I was just blazing away at that time.

Now I'm very much back to my roots because my original influences like Moore, Vandenberg & Schon are still my biggest influences today.

Biggest influence and the reason I play guitar has to be Angus Young. I don't play like him much, but he was the 1st player to make me pay attention to guitar and say "I want to do that".

1975 - Ace
1980 - Eddie
1985 - Yngwie
1986 - Vai & Satriani
1987 - Lynch
1988 - Steve Morse, Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore
1993 - Greg Howe

2006 - I saw MacAlpine play 7 string and decided to try switching to the 7.

Hetfield. Period.

There are a lot of other influences as well, but James is the biggest, by far.

1. Ace Frehley (made me want to play guitar)
2. Eddie Van Halen (wanted to play and sound like)
3. Randy Rhoads
4. George Lynch
5. Rest of the 80's brat pack

Biggest 'guitar player' influence: Slash
Biggest 'guitar/song writer': Mike Ness

The Scorpians "Rock you like a Hurricane" made me actually want to play the guitar. Heard that riff and that was that. Randy Rhoads made me want to get better and introduced me to the style that I favor. Others that were key and kept me interested:

Jake E. Lee
Eddie
Sykes
