I also use R2 most of the time live with the IV.

Liking R2 on a Mark IV and using it live, what has the world come to?

I agree though, R2 does sound better in a band setting. It is nice boosted too :)

ha yeah that scooped V EQ setting never seems to cut in a live mix, sometimes i actually do an upside down smile kinda EQ curve and i cut through like a bastard, tones that sound weird to people when playing alone tend to be stellar in a mix, for example R2 on the IV was that tone for me, when i use the IV i use R2 most of the night

I found that the only way that cuts with those settings is when you open the sucker up LOUD and you use MC90 speakers. When I say lous, I mean loud enough to get you kicked out lol :D

As far as R2.... I hate it on my MKIV ver a. I can get it to sound decent with a boost but I never dug that channel lol :D

By the way, we have to set up some time for us to meet up so that I can give you the switch!!!

After I got a chance to play the Bones for the first time I was sold, told myself the Bones was all I needed, I wanted the Meathead but, the Bones is an amazing amp capable of many different tones, but as soon as Mike emailed me and told me the Meathead was done I was still n sure, but then I played it.........and fucking christ, that's it in a box.

Unfortunatly I am not a rich man, so it's going to take me selling the Hulk 800 and a guitar or 2 to pay for it, but I HAVE TO HAVE IT!

honestly, as a few of you said Mike's amps just have something I've been looking for!

it's nothing short of amazing! REALLY!

So if anyone wants to buy the Hulk, it's time!
You won't have to go through the trouble of finding a good donor, I think Mike will back me up the 800 I found for this mod was an amazing amp to begin with.
I hate like hell to sell it, but in light of progress, I have to have the Meatiest of Meatheads!

R2 cuts better, tougher to play and you have to boost but it cuts.

Yep, this JCM800 2203 is a great sounding one  It's the Canadian version with the missing 16 ohm tap EH!
Cheers,
Mike

No, I'm so not into the market for any amps, unless it's 200 watts of clean. Like a marshall Major or a Hiwatt. But I know Andy thinks well of him.

That is cool to hear. If I pick something up I well give you a call to see if you want to check it out.

I think I well see you in Kent this weekend.

Every Major I have seen in years was in pretty bad shape. I am very much into the big sound that comes from the big amps.

I think we're playing a 4PM set over there...
Actually I'm thinking of getting a bigger power amp and going Univalve clean into the power amp.

I know from running my Bivalve into that 76' SUNN Model T that can be a killer sound. Wish I did not sell the SUNN sometimes.

Mikes amps will put out 180 clean watts with 4 KT88s installed.

Really, you need me to OT this thread some more? Fine...
I have no interest in an amp that can do clean. If I spent any money on an amp it'll be a 200 watter from Marshall or Hiwatt made in the 70s. I just sold 16 amps, most of them high gainers/channel switchers, or 50watters and less. I'm fairly certain I know what would get me to pull out my wallet....

Myself that is part of the reason I am interested in the MEATHEAD. Every amp I buy I see as getting a power amp and preamp. I have come to like power amps that can work well with different tubes. I have used my GCX / GCP to loop out my THD amps into the power section of a few different amps. It is a great option.

..... and much like Ed I have amps that do not get used much anymore and thinking of letting them go. The THD stuff is going no place. I would probably sell my car first if it came to that.

I was just stating a technical point, which may be interesting to some. No need to be so snappy about it. Sheesh :(

No one is snappy. Point is that I have yet to meet a player that would want a 180 watt channel switcher when they're talking about a Major.
