After many years using the Mark Series Boogies, Ive switched

I am not selling the MK IV just because I am a true whore, not a rent-a-amp whore but I am all MArshalls now as well due to what Ralph said. My jam band had a gig at the town shindig and the other guitarist was killing me as his amp was way less compressed and more open. I had to turn off the eq just to cut through and hated my tone. I really enjoy the stipid hangtime and liquid easy play of the boogie but it just lacks that blast that marshall based amps have.

I'll just get what Dave has, one of those wire racks to hold all the amps.

Boogies still have their place. But yes, when a Boogie is on stage with a Marshall it's no suprise which amp is going to thrust through the mix. I remember at gigs i would get what i thought was a killer sound on stage, then when i heard our soundman pump me through the mix i hated what i heard in the room and i had to go back and dick around. When i had the IIC+ setup right though, it had a cool midrange that did cut through well, unlike most other Boogies. But that was with Greenbacks.

Boogies still do the low volume thing really well. Yay for compression! :D

Cool to hear you found something that work for you even better than the Boogies Ralph. Looking forward to hearing more clips from you with Mikes amps.
Thanks Danny. I really loves Mikes amps there are a lot of killer tones in them

To using Fortin Modded Marshalls. They just do it for me these days.
I still love the Boogies and always will but the Modded Marshalls are just so much easier to use and they just sound killer and they are very inspiring to play.

When I started playing with the new band, I noticed that my MKIV was getting killed in a mix and I had to really fuck around with the EQ. This wasn't new to me but qfter many years of doing this it was an added HUGE PITA. I guess in my old age, Im just tired or having to tweak the EQ lol.
With Mikes Cali Modded Marshall all I have to do is literally plug in , set up my controls the way I like it and Im good to go.

I'll still continue to use the AXE-FX live because of the flexability but the Modded Marshall Mike Lent me has been my go to amp since I got it. I can't wait to get my 100 watter back from Mike and I can't wait until he gets a chance to work on my Ultimate mod lol

Well there you have it.

~R~

The name of my new band is "HUGE PITA"

SO many conotations...............

but the lead channel was a letdown for me, especially the IIC+ mode.

No surprise there.

RIP Mesa Boogie 1971 - 1991

I soooooo very dis-agree. To each his own....so we can agree to dis-agree.

That said....I predict sites like this in 15 years looking back to the ole' glory days of 2009 and hailing those "original Mk Vs" as awesome amps (because they are).

God Bless opinion duels!........

By 2024 all Mesa amps will be digital & feature their new, proprietary, & developed in conjunction with Intel "dyna-chip" technology that creates "lusicious harmonic spread", accurately producing the "angelic overtones" of their fabled STR 415 tubes of yesteryear.

Maybe I can get a job writing Mesa advertisements :D
I see a new career brewing :hys:
You can write their new advertisment and then you can patten the words :hys:

Hey Ralph!

I did the exact same thing at the beginning of this year.. Im using my own modded Marshall now as my main amp, and i sold off my Boogie MKIII because the modded Marshalls just do it better for me in every situation.

I was fighting my MKIII in a band situation, and it just wouldnt cut through unless i turned up the mid slider on the EQ atleast to the middle line.. at which point it sounded too middy and i didnt like the tone. With the modded Marshalls, i can set it up in 5 seconds and i can get the tone EXACTLY how i want, and it cuts like glass in a band mix!!

It was a total no brainer for me to just stick with the modded Marshalls and quit using the Boogie. Glad its worked out for you man!!
That little modded 50 watter is a ton of fun to play and it sounds and feels right!!

The cali mod has the Marshall oooomph with the Boogies sustain which is mainly the reason why I love it so much! The great thing is that you can switch it to be more open sounding as well. so many tones in it. I cant wait to get my 100 watter!!

FWIW, I was never a Mesa fanboi, and I no longer need / do the massive high gain these days, but all I can say is that the Fortin mods and amps clips I've heard are the best out there. I really dig the tones, power and smackdown. Dunno what he's doing, but the sounds these amps get almost make me want to play metal again! (Rickenbackers for metal? Nah!  my metal days are over!)

I haven't even heard the meathead or natas, but if these are more than the current options, WOW!

Fortin rocks. The tones I've heard have shredded my brain.

I decided to pass on the V. I am not selling my IV or Tremoverb. I like the Sig x but can never get the low end I want. Same with Soldanos. The Diezels also sound cool but the mid range is never what I want. Bogners, Suhr,Cameron, etc also great but not for me. As well as many others.
Always to much or not enough of something.

But I have known for years the sound I grew up with was Marshall at heart.
I think many on this thread have been down the same roads I have walked down.

Dave Friedman's Marsha sounds very cool. But I think I need more voices on tap. Amps with one or two voicing can be killers but I need more.

The MEATHEAD sounds like it maybe where I need to go ?
The Fortin stuff seems to have that voice I have been wanting to get at. The best of classic and modern.

I think that you would be highly impressed by the Meathead. there are six channels on that beast that are all independant to one another plus each channels has 3 or four options. the sound capabilities are just insane/infinite!!

What is it with old people and Marshalls?

And Teles!

I must be getting old ;) Gain's been getting turned down, and playing my tele A LOT, lol. I do think you can't really go wrong with some of the classic guitar sounds though, they just WORK. Ralph rips regardless of what amp, but I have a feeling I'd dig him through the fortin more than the mkIV.

Yeah that sums it up for me, the best of classic and modern. Classic in its abundant midrange detail/articulation yet modern in its chest thumping power and fast dynamics.
