I found a silver face Fender Champ sitting next to a dumpster. Once I cleaned the input and pots it worked perfect.

I traded a ss marshall 50 watt combo (I recently saw one for sale for $150) for a 1982 1960B cab with original 65 watters.

Reading all of these scores makes me cry, I can't get anywhere close to these :(

Don't worry, these deals are the exception, being in the right place at the right time, looking hard, etc. I am in the same boat, I have gotten decent deals on all my gear, but nothing that was crazy low. :D

Not even going to read this as Okie Pete will have all his pawn shop scores and I have to listen to Dave about his pile-o-marshalls he got for 1/4 of what they are going for today.

Screw those two :D

I scored a bunch of great deals over the years...

I once scored a 1982 JCM800 2204 for free.

Then last year i scored a late 60's Marshall 4x12 cab for £200. It had a set of late 70's G12-65's in it which was nice.

Also last year i picked up a 1978 Marshall 4x12 with Blackback H30's for £130.

Few more for ya scott... all found at pawn shops:

Bought a Washburn extended cutaway electric (36 frets!) for $90, sold it THE NEXT DAY for almost a grand on ebay...

Bought a Charvel San Dimas kahler/pointy for $250 in really nice shape, flipped it for $900 a few months later (this was mid 90s)

Bought a USA wolfgang flametop for $200, flipped for $850

I have more stories like this, but most are from the 90s because nowadays pawn shops have internet connections and PCs - they will look stuff up on ebay and have a better idea what it's worth.

Last year I bought my ESP USA MX-2 from a guy that bought it straight from ESP and literally NEVER touched it in its case for $1000. Probably could sell it for over $2k if I needed to especially now that it has titanium saddles. I will never sell it though, perfect neck for my hands and best sounding guitar I have laid hands or ears on!

I have been very fortunate to score some great deals, but I think my best one is Marshall 40th JTM full stack for $1500.

1989 Les Paul Custom Black Beauty. guy was goingto lose his house. $750.00 with the case. I felt bad..but hell..a deals a deal!!!

1946 Gibson ES-150. Saw it sticking out of a trash can while driving by, stopped and grabbed it. Didn't know what it was at the time, but ended up being a good find. Original P-90, pots and all hardware. Frets were shot. Refretted it and kept it for a few years. Sold it off a couple years ago for a lot more than I paid for it..... :D

59 slab board Strat. Mint...bought it for $580. Sold it for $7K.

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!

the only mark on it was 12 dimples from the old curly chord the old man left under the upper horn. Flawless. It was then sold about a year later to a Japanese collector for $12K. The wife wanted $600 but I said I needed money for lunch since I bought it when I was in college, I was struggling!

I bought a 1986 PRS Custom 24 in vintage yellow about 10 years ago for $1,200 (a deal even then). I played it for 5 years, then sold it on ebay for $5,500.

1968 plexi for 550 euros (2008) not selling it AT ALL.
1973 JMP halfstack for 1500euro (2008)
Couple of old pedals, bought them for 75euros, sold 2 of them to Ibanez collectors for 400 and 350, sold the 3rd one for 100.
I bought and sold a lot of pedals for a while. I remember selling more vintage Ibanez pedals for 300-400euros each.

I got a brand new Marshall 1959SLPX reissue that a store could not sell for $1000 on blackfriday. Those things list at $2350.
