Oh, and I look at the past posts of the person I'm about to do business with as well.
It sounds elitist, but I've rarely had a great transaction with someone with bad punctuation, poor grammar and run on sentences.
In public our appearance says a lot about us.
On a forum our posts do the same.

Well, I guess I'll never buy from Barzini

I'd buy some gear from Barzini, you just have to unpack it with rubber gloves and run the black light over it before making any direct contact :D

probably glow solid white :D

I'd be shocked to find out that Mark does blow.

I seriously doubt it. Those kinds of people usually lie constantly, they're forgetful and very disorganized.

Makes sense...I mean, how could you maintain a business and keep up with the demand if you did blow?
Huh

There is no way a Wizard MM OT could have blown, there is a guy who is an endorsee and demos the amps at Namm and the amp shows who knows the seller of that amp you bought and says he is a stand up guy.

I don't agree with the logic that people have to meet certain standardized "forum requirements" to sell or buy from the Gear Classifieds.

Take me for example. I don't have many posts or time as an active member in Rig-Talk, but I've been an eBay member since Aug-31-06 with 100% feedback and with a verified PayPal account that also happens to post under the same moniker in other forums.

I think there is always a certain risk involved when dealing with someone you don't know on the Internet no matter how many requirements or fees you make people go through.

I am a firm believer that proper communication and street smarts is what constitutes a favorable experience within any Internet deal.

There are ways of knowing if someone is a scammer just by reading his ads or PMs.

Things I always check out when buying or selling:

- When people hide their identity. When someone never reveals you their full name or don't have any kind of background for you to check out, then think twice before you buy/sell from them.

- When the seller/buyer has horrible grammar. I know many people aren't very articulate with their writing, but this is a very important factor when deciding to buy/sell. Proper grammar makes you look legit, careful and professional. If someone doesn't bother in using some sort of free spell check program, then maybe he won't take his time to answer/handle your concerns.

- When someone lies. This is a no brainer. If someone lies to you in any shape or form, then it is likely that you are dealing with a scammer of some sorts.

- When the buyer/seller uses excuses. There are people out there that will try to convince you that their life is a mess in order to escape from a tight situation they led themselves to. I know that sometimes this is very real, but you as a seller/buyer shouldn't care that much. So what if your buyer suddenly got cancer? You bought something from me and you have to pay! Don't waste your time when you meet "Mr. Excuses". That kind of person involves item returns, refunds or something for nothing scenarios.

the meaning of the acronym A.D.D. changes ever so slightly....

Guys, I've had some serious personal problems to start with. I got confused and thought I sold it on EBay and that my wife shipped it. Completely brain farted and forgot my friend Erock had it so it just sat there after the sale. As soon as I realized what happened we shipped the amp. I've also bought and sold a massive amount of shit lately so it got lost in the shuffle there alone. I've never made an error like this before and I won't again and sincerely apologize. My life has sucked and I just haven't been myself. That's the story and I'm utterly trustworthy.

U guys are merciless. Maybe the worst 2 months of my life just happened, damn

im surprised it was you - but you just dont brain fart and misplace a $1,000 amplifier, lie to someone else and sell it without it being in your possession, and then spending the money sent to you before making sure the customer is happy.

it has nothing to do with your personal life and everything to do with the sale itself.

and im talking from experience. overthemountain has my 1983-86 marshall cabinet with pre-rola original G12-65 speakers. it had to go for quick cash, and sold it for $350. i then had to sell my wolfgang which i regret having to do.

in either of those deals i never put my personal life out on the line - i described the item, and made sure they went to good homes. you do it professionally and uphold the seller's/buyer's guidelines.

if you dont do this, you open the door for all hell to break loose. "the hoff" is lucky Eric/you were involved and not random guys who use RT just for the classifieds - it could have very well ended much much much worse.

and that is a chance im not willing to take when hundreds to thousands of dollars are at stake.

sorry about your personal life and i do hope things improve, but you dropped the ball. accept it and move on. some people will continue to do business with you, others realize money is tight and are being extra cautious. maybe you should as well.

who took the cookie from the cookie jar?

ill buy your place line for the crumbs =p
