Flats are great if you're just playing at home. Nice and smooth, easy on the fingers. I never had any luck with them in a live mix with any of the bands I was in. With the current state of digital everything and modelers and multi FX though, who knows.

Yeah I only play at home. No intentions of playing live any time soon or ever at this point. I've done a few jam sessions here and there with loud guitars and heavy hitting drummers though and I didn't have much of a problem being heard.

But I'm completely inexperienced with live settings and I'm sure I'd fail miserably at even dialing in a cutting sound whether with flat wounds or round wounds.

Yeah, we are boned. There is a twitch streamer that started a "streamer University" and as expected, it's been a complete shit show. Adults behaving like children.

I have been using d'Addario strings since day 1. I won't click on another stupid bait link. What's the issue? Another frustrated YT that needs clicks and views to keep his channel alive?

I mean we hardly agree on anything..... Even Katana amps which we both like.....

How does this affect the value, quality, sound, tone etc etc of the product D'Addario makes and why should I stop using them again?

Usually 60s and 70s rock. If I'm not learning my favorite tunes I just goof around trying to come up with my own bass lines, which will never get put into play anyways. But I I have fun doing it regardless.

Last jam session I had we played some Ween songs and before that sabbath tunes.

Flats don’t work great for Sabbath, but they’re ok for a lot of 60s and some 70s rock.

I work in advertising. It's my job to come up with creative ideas, ad campaigns, branding initiatives, and do all the writing and concepting for social media engagement, digital, broadcast/video, out of home, print ads, and really any advertising regardless of the medium. I do this at ad agencies and in-house, client side. So I know how this stuff works and I know what can happen when you aren't authentic and try to pull the wool over people's eyes.

On one hand, some people don't care. If the product is good, the product is good.

On the other hand, some people don't like being lied to or patronized. And even when the product is great, if the company does something to piss them off, they're gonna jump ship.

Rule of thumb: it's always best to keep it real.

Demoing a new string product line by using AI to create the actual audio is like using an AI-generated focus group to do cookie taste testing. It's not real. An algorithm can't taste cookies for you. And it sure as hell can't demo guitar strings either.

I played with some guys in the 70’s, using a borrowed Rickenbacker 4000 with flats.
We were doing the whole gamut of guitar hero stuff.
Superbass 100 Plexi and a Dual Showman 2x15 JBL cab (which was my guitar rig).
Roundwounds are great, but for Hendrix, Gallagher, Trower, Beck, and whatever - you just don’t need Geddy Lee or Chris Squire all over the place.

It's all personal preference anyways. I like how they sound and how they feel on my fingers. The jam sessions are typically last minute and are done for fun. I'm not looking to be in any sort of cover band or a band in general.

35 years ago when I had an Ibanez 540 I tried the D'addario floyd ends but I didn't notice anything special.

35 years ago when I had an Ibanez 540 I tried the D'addario floyd ends but I didn't notice anything special.

I remember Slinky’s had a problem at one point with tarnished and rusty strings.
Probably coinciding with the advent of warehouse-like guitar stores. These can be incredibly damp places.
Then came sealed packets, and we were back to normal.
Some people can’t ever forget.
I found D’Addarios would break more than Ernie Balls on my regular Strat, and that’s a fact.
They couldn’t take my constant abuse.
