FUCK THAT dude...vent away....if it keeps you partially on the chain and away from the rope...who cares what other "normal" people think.
"normal" ppl do unfathomable things everyday...hell, for shit that happens in traffic dude.
someone takes money out your pocket/food out you and your family's mouth....etc, etc..not to diminish it, but, we've all been there to some degree or another..think of the poor fucks in the madoff scheme?!?!?! holy hell!!!

maybe post over in the off topic section about stuff that bothers you..i think you'd be surprised at how many people that you think are "normal" actually openly talk about things like past child abuse/mental illness/PTSD/etc etc etc. me, i post on twitter, under an anonymous name, and...you know, the ONLY thing that helps is talking about it. even if it is blowing off steam in 140 characters or less!. send them a registered letter.

post away. if it keeps you from driving or flying to palo alto seeking these people out (not to sound like im talking you down), then POST IT. fuck that. you can ALWAYS make more money dude. i know it's something a lot of us obsess about, and, not to diminish or minimize what's goin on with DAR amps and thier customers, but....
sometimes you just gotta say fuck it, and let it play out.

that last bit of advice was given to me by a good friend in the music biz a lonnnnng time ago, and it helps actually. you can sit back and wait. it wont kill you. let someone else be the fall guy bro.

hah, i deleted it, but thanks, definitely good advice. i do talk it out, i just prefer to do it anonymously or in private. not that anyone here knows me, but i do use my real name so it could be looked up by anyone.

what if he doesnt sign for it? if he saw my name on it im pretty sure he wouldnt. or what if like receptionist signs for it?

My mom's divorcing my dad and is in the same boat, hes not answering any of her calls or emails (for over a year now) and the court told her to send a registered letter, if he doesn't sign for it to re-send a few times, if still no signature she's in the clear since she did her due diligence and everything is recorded. My dad is in the US and she's overseas, but the general concept might apply to your situation.

I feel really bad for you guys, and as far as law suits go, don't get your hopes up, he will declare bankruptcy, the bigger boys hes in debt to (banks etc) will be given first dibs on any money he does have, and you will more likely than not be left holding your cock in your hand. Really sux, but unless, in Cujos case, he can convince the police/court that there is added theft in them keeping his paid for PROPERTY, then nothing will come out of this, and even then maybe an extra charge and the accompanying penalty, but no $$ or property will probably be returned.

As much as you would like to blow his guys head off, don't, it's temping but 5K is not worth it. Learn your lesson, move on.

I feel for you guys. I really do. I would be losing sleep and would have blown a gasket. I get very angry over stuff like this. If it wasn't for the law and my family......... People should not underestimate others. We are all capable.

this.

not saying i condone the violence either, but, IMHO, ONE Time is all it would take for one of these thieving fucks to be...ahem...187'd in their shops and cleaned out. personally, i'd never act on those revenge type urges, but i've seen the results up close of other people's rage. but, it would go viral.
and it would scare the fuck out of all the rest of the fucks that think OPM/takin the money and running/hell, not even answering emails in a timely fashion is a great idea.

i'm REALLY relieved i didnt give over the 1500 i had saved to DAR for a forza last year.....wow.
i feel for you guys that did, i really do. this shit sux.

I would never act but that's how I would feel. If it were not for consequences I wouldn't wince at tearing the guys eyes out. You don't do that to people.
it's frustrating, and i'm not even involved...wow.
other than adding nothing to this thread, i have nothing more to add.

Looks like DAR is down the same road as Tim and Faustine. Screwed allot of people. Got in way to deep investment wise and couldn't dig out. Everyone got screwed. He then tried to sell what was left. I think DAR may have done the same thing investing in the newer amp line and when it didn't bring dealer sales it was a gonner along with paying the past due bills. Took the amps and the cash and its over. I don't know for sure but it doesn't look good. A case of not knowing how to do business successfully. Jim at Scumabck did it right, Steve Henning seems to be on the right track. Fortin did it right. DAR

The only custom shop or "small guys" I did business with has been Dave Friedman and Brad. My wait times turned out longer than planned however their customer service has been 100% top notch. They stand behind what they sell and do.

I hope you guys get your money/amps back, this sucks.

I get a little compassionate when I read threads like this.

The guy can be easily contacted with a little internet sleuthing -- you know this, right? And if he
cant', he'll certainly get the message quickly.

For instance, it looks like he may a partner in a real estate business in Palo Alto w/ a family member. That business has an address and phone number different than the one for DAR.

In this day and age, it's not hard to track down folks if you want to.

You know how many times I could get blown for $5K? I don't, but I'm betting it's a lot...

$4800 in the hole? I think that warrants:

b) File for theft with the Sheriff's office.
g) Alert the Feds to an Interstate Fraud case.
h) If you paid with a credit card, get them involved with a Fraud case.
i) Tip off the IRS for DAR exporting US built goods without paying taxes.
j) Report to the BBB.

Definitely all of the above. Most notably, the one one in bold, as it might in fact get the most traction.
oh yea. this shit is scummy.

and I liked that quattro. Looks like im going german!!

$5k.

Makes me wince every time I read it.

ugh... im still not over it. So much gear for 5k....

That stuff looked promising too.

another thing. "My wife n I were blocked from there Facebook" Thats fucked up bad. I mean 5K and he blocks you... fuck.

just lurked his fb...he says he is known for his "lengthy build times". Im assuming he was in over his head if he is doing this somewhat solo. He must have had a rash of problems and too many people wanted their stuff at the same time while meeting demands for new builds. IDK honestly. Im just bummed because I do not want to make the same 5K mistake alot of you are fighting for now.

Unfortunately this is common and not limited to amp builders. On some other car forums I frequent there is a guy who is a custom car restorer/builder that had a golden rep on all the car sites. Kinda like a Boyd Coddington type for those that know who he was. Well in the past year or so it all turned to shit and there is one guy in particular he has for over $100,000 on a custom build. Several others are out 20K-30K each on parts purchases alone. This builder was a sponsor of a few auto forums and it has gotten a little ugly watching it play out on those sites.

what ended up happening? did you guys get your money/amps? this thread just ends, I am very curious!

So DAR is out of business now, even though they got everyone their amps??? The reason I asked is because I watched a demo of a DAR with Ola Englund, and it sounded really thick, just super fat and tight metal tones. It seems like if they made everything ok with everyone they would keep making amps. The one I heard was pretty interesting.

I do not recommend armed robbery, you could easliy go to prison for Ten years. BUT if this happened to me I would be at his shop taking my unfinished amp, along with some finished products and anything else I could obtain for my troubles. I know easier said than done, but thats alot of money to let someone get over on you.

maybe if i was within 2000 miles, lol

ive tried calling the cops over and over again, getting a different person each time this morning, they just keep repeating that its civil, even when i say that its theft and/or fraud its they just ignore what im saying. ill try the mayors office next, lol. anyone else in here trying anything?

lol, i talked to the better business bureau and the attorney generals office, i asked "what if he doesn't respond? or wont comply?" they said at that point there is nothing they could do. lol, wtf? then why even file?

If local police won't do anything, go a step above them i.e. state level. State level Bureau of Investigations or State Police may have a different answer. Tell them what the local cops told you. There are MULTIPLE law enforcement agencies that you can contact. ALWAYS document every move you make. If none works, guess what. Are you going to let yourself take a $4800 bath? You shouldn't. *Sometimes* you have to take the 'law' into your own hands. Break into his shop and take *your* amp if you have to. Then the cops will have some nice paperwork to fill out trying to explain why they didn't take the correct course of action to begin with. Then you can write a movie script off your story and sell it to make bail money lol

I joke, but in all seriousness it's an unfortunate story for you, bud. I do hope it works out with the legal system and you get your amp back.
