Although I am (and was a fan) of Sammy b/f VH, VH sort of ended when DLR left for me - I confess ignorance to VH with Sammy.
Before that, for me, it all comes together on Mean Street b/c the guitar sounds so solid, but the truth is that anything VH1 through 1984 is a grab-bag..reach in and pick one.

Ed Nut here. My absolute favorite album from a guitar tone perspective is VH-II. To my ear, is is 'woodier' and more 'organic' than the first album. I was blown away when I heard the raw board tape of Eruption in the youtube video from Sunset Sound. There it was. The sizzliest, angriest, nastiest track on VH-I sounding just as warm and round and 'woody' as everything I hear on VH-II. That video really illustrates how much the post-production EQ and Plate Verb added to the sizzle and snarl on the first album. The raw guitar track tones on VH-I sound remarkably like the finished product on VH-II. I just love that sound.

...Been listening to VH since the first release came out. just when I'm convinced one is more inspiring than another, something changes in life and I choose again. am grateful they put out as much as they did. ultimately, I ended up buying two rigs. the stealth 100 watt 6L6 with matching cab (because it was his last effort with amps before he passed) and the EL34 version as well. also ended up acquiring two of the last Kerry Wright 4x12's one with G12H-30's(75hz) and one with scumback 65's ...and will take them to the grave.
